Problem Starting
Alright, not SR20 related, but the people at S10forum.com suck and are no help what so-ever, and this forum never lets me down, so here goes

Alright here goes. About 3 weeks ago, my truck ran out of gas in front of my apartment. I was in the middle of finals, and heading to a final, so I said **** it and took my girls car. The next couple of days where pretty chaotic, so I just said **** it. And let it sit. After like 5 days, went and got a few gallons of gas and dumped it in. Went to start it up, and it wouldn't turn over. It would start to crank for a few seconds, then the gauges would flicker up and down, like the speedo would go to 80mph for a few seconds then go back down. It would do this until I let go of the key. Then, sometimes right as I was letting go it would almost feel like it was back-firing, almost a little kick, but no 'back-firing' pop. So I pulled the battery and threw it on the charger. Put it back in, and after like 5 minutes of trying, it finally started. I kept turning the key on and off to prime the fuel pump, get as much gas flowing as possible, because it doesn't smell at all like gas from the tail pipe. It started up and after a few minutes the idle smoothed out. Great, I moved it to the other side of my apartment and parked it. Tried starting it again once or twice, fired up without too much of a problem and idled fine.

I had to leave town for a few days so I let it sit for another two days. Came back, sample problem. Threw the battery on the charger last night, fully charged it, and same thing. Wont start at all. Cranks for a few seconds, gauges flicker, click, and then kicks a little at the end some of the time. Battery connections are all tight and the terminal aren't corroded. Voltage at the battery is 12.76 constantly, so charge seems sufficient. This was after trying to crank it prolly 15 times. Also tried jumping it with no success. Things I noticed also - if I leave the key in the on position, it seems like there is a whir coming from the AC unit tucked up against the fire wall. Also, don't know if it's coincidence or not, but when I got it started the first time, my passenger wiper blade doesn't work anymore. It makes a feeble attempt to move, but just dies out after a second or two.

Any ideas anyone? I've got a parts Blazer to pull from, so I should be able to swap parts to try out. It's located an hour away, so all suggestions would be appreciated so I don't have to make 20 trips. Thanks in advance,
~Matt~

x2 on the shot battery. Your symptoms fit it perfectly, especially for a GM. I've seen this happen alot after installing remote starts on GM or Acura trucks. Never on anyone else. Definitely a brand thing.

Matt-

Definitely sounds like a battery issue, but being that it was completely out of fuel, I'd consider checking out the fuel pump, and the fuel filter. Sometimes when you run it bone dry, the pump isn't "lubricated" any longer, and locks up. Replacing the fuel filter just insures that the sediment isn't clogging it up.
