53J 1R McRib USDM sr20de
Does anybody have any info on this motor I picked one up today from All Japanese Engines the code on the head says 53j 1r. It is and obd1 motor highport. The valve cover is the champgne color with the black line in the middle. It also has the tubular headers. After looking over the motor there is somethings that a standard jspec sr20 doesnt have. I would really like to know the compression of this motor and if it is some type of special motor or something like that.

I think its just a common Primera 9.5:1.
I also got the tubular manifold on my jdm, and was told that it's a Primera.
The debate is still out there on what exterior evidence we can use to tell if it 10:1 or 9.5:1.

I found out that it is a jdm high compression 10:1 and it has flat top pistons I swapped it in my car yesterday. It started up perfect and sounds great I will let you know how it runs.

How do you know it has 10 to 1 compression? Did you take the head off and look? Otherwise your basically just guessing.

The 10:1 motors are over rated from what I hear, they're not really that big of a deal.

Exactly what he said. They also have lower boost capabilities. What are they 3-5 more hp? Its those 11 to 1 autech motors that are wanted and would make a nice n/a build!

I found it is a true 10:1 from a member on the old forum. He has the same engine code on his and he did pull the head to see if it was a true high compression motor. maybe they are over rated but I paid only 400 dollars for this motor from a well know shop. I would have paid the same amount for a standard 9.5:1 jspec. I finished swapping it in sunday and I can tell you that this motor runs harder and better then any regular jspec I have ever had. As for boost I am not a big fan of it. I make my power from another form of forced induction.

^SE-Rican had a 10.1 motor that did very well boosted. So did STRATTON. They are rated at 150hp. Andreas says that 5 of that rating is probably from the tubular exhaust manifold design. I say any extra HP's are good in my book. I paid $500 for my UK 10.1 motor, but I got a tranny and a ton of other stuff along with the motor.

^What mods do you have on the motor? I have a 10.1 motor.
