3" exhaust question
My muffler finally gave up the ghost today. After a hard 233k miles, it is finally time to send her off to the scrap heaps.

In preparation to go turbo here this spring, I'd like to fabricate a 3" exhaust. How much of a difference will this make with a N/A car?

I'm thinking of going with something along these lines...

Two 5" round resonators (instead of the big 6" that Vadim and tokes have) to keep fitment as tight to the body but still keep sound levels down, and a 4x9" oval out back with a turndown tip to keep things looking factory. I'd probably hit the Oval with some High Temp BBQ Black paint too.

Not necessarily ordering from there, just trying to show what I am looking at.

Thanks for the input.

I'm going the DIY route on my p10 also, I'll post pics of the exhaust build as it goes. I'm going to go with some of these:
eBay Motors: 3.0" Stainless Steel 304 Bend Tube Pipe Exhaust Piping (item 310108228049 end time Jan-10-09 09:56:17 PST)
or this:
eBay Motors: 3" - 45 & 180 - 304 Stainless Mandrel Bend Pipe Tubing (item 400020834773 end time Jan-08-09 15:08:47 PST)
and possible make my own resonator out of this:
PERFORATED STAINLESS STEEL TUBING 3"diameter Tube - eBay (item 190278674546 end time Jan-13-09 17:55:57 PST)

Blair, I'm thinking two of those might be an overkill. With turbo I doubt it will be raspy.

I hate my 6", and I will probably rebuild my exhaust, including a 4" resonator instead hehe

3" on a n/a non ve/det is a bad idea - look around on the forum, they'll tell ya 2.25-2.5" is perfect for n/a *(edited and addedeven with very agressive cams*...I errd on the side of 2.5"

I strongly disagree.

I had a 3" on my SE-R with basic bolt-ons. On the dyno I thought the tq curve and top end looked really good versus other similar set ups with smaller cat-back. On the street it was almost intolerable.

Here's some pics.
