Question on coil wiring
Does it matter which pin is 12v+ and which is negative on the external coil of a pre-94 distributor?

If so, can someone confirm which one is the 12v+ if you are looking into the coil plug, with the clip on the top?

I do think it matters, but don't quote me on that.
I'll find my wiring diagram and it'll show us what's up.

Yes it does,

If you want to know which is 12 volt and which is tach signal I will give you the colors to look for on the harness plug so all you have to do is match it up with the plug to the coil.

Black with red stipe is 12 volt positive.
Green with silver dots is signal wire.

On the diagram I posted it's a little different from what Dre said. Maybe a 1994 thing?

Black with red stripe is 12 volt positive.
Green with yellow (dots?) is signal wire.

That diagram is wrong, the 3 SERs and 1 NX2000 outside my house that says so.

I have a White 93 SER Automatic with what I posted.

I have a Black 91 SER 5 speed with Yellow stripe on signal.

I have My Blue 94 SER 5 Speed with what I posted.

I have a White 93 NX2000 5 speed with what I posted.

Looks like a funny Nissan thing.

my friend pulled up with his 93 NX2000 and his has a green with yellow stripe.

That means the manual is wrong as there is no consistancy.

out of the 5 cars that I have looked at

2 are green yellow stripe

3 are green with silver dots.

Great thanks for the confirmation guys. Wire colours however don't help as the manuals are usually for usdm or jdm cars, where as our cars are assembled locally, some from japan, and some are uk spec. (second hand imports are not allowed over here)

And I'm using the equivalent of a N14 chassis, and trying to wire in a previous generation sr20's coil, so non of the wire colours match.

I did however look at a mates car that came from the factory with that dizzy and coil, and managed to confirm the pinouts. This was shortly before your replies ;-) Regardless of wire colours, the pin on the right is 12v as you say, and the left is signal.

btw on our local cars the 12v coil wire is black/red or black/yellow on a another car. The signal wire is green with what looks like a bit of yellow.
