Name that rattle sound
Ok both the NX and SE-R do this. The pass. door makes a rattling sound sometimes. This will stop if you reach across the car and push the cloth panel on the door right in the middle. When you let go the sound resumes.

Anyone know what part is making this sound? Anyone ever fix it?

when i got my nx, my pass door had a rattle and it turned out to be one of the nuts that hold the window to the shell of the door had come off. so the window frame in the door was rattling.

the nut was in the door so i tightened it up and good to go. i'd pull the panel off and see if there are any studs in the shell that don't have a nut.

My car tends to make that rattle when it's very cold and has been standing all night.

Now that I have a prothane motor mount everything rattles

I will pop the door and have a look. I hate doing this type of thing but at least I have some backup parts in case I break stuff.

Anyone got a link to a door panel removal instructions?

Thanks guys.

It should be pretty easy, lower your window, remove the screws around the door panel., pull the panel up and out of the sockets and off the door.

The NX also has some hidden screws in the door handle...

While inside of there, tighten all nuts & bolts.
But, you are probably just missing the main screw behind the door handle.
This will cause vibrations like that.

I discovered those screws today Scotty. Thanks again guys.

You sure 'm not gonna break some plastic tab or something? It seems like every time I try something like this I snap some piece that I then have to go run down, and I hear my friend Dirk going "Plastic Jap cars" in my head with his high German accent.

Benito,
Im doing this from memory, so hopefully I dont forget something.

Door Panel Removal Instructions
1. Remove all of the screws from around the door panel including the plastic one at the top of the panel at door jam.
2. Remove the plastic round push tab at the top rear of door panel.
3. Remove the screw inside the door pull. Now, slowly remove the plastic pieces. Now remove all of the door pull screws: the rusty one down at the bottom (some has the a plastic cap), two inside the slot at back of handle, and the hidden big one at the top described in #4 below.
4. Remove the large screw at top of slot inside of the door pull (its is located just inside the panel). Kinda hidden so if you peep up from the door latch handle into the slot, you'll see it)
5. If you have manual windows, remove the handle by taking out ring clip. Make sure that you catch the little clip when popping it out of the groove. Dont loose that clip.
6. DO NOT remove the door handle. Just remove the plastic piece under the door handle by lifting the handle and popping it out.
7. Gently raise the bottom section of the panel outward to clear the door handle support brace, while pushing-up on the panel. I usually start pushing up the front section using the handle and then the rear section.

Now, you are inside of the door & speaker (your finger will go thru the cheezy Nissan speaker if you press on it! So dont...). The plastic sheet is held in place with gooey black stuff. DONT get that black stuff on anything (its hell to remove). Carefully, peel back the plastic at a corner and let it hang down (dont rip it up). Check & tighten any screws/nuts. If any screw/nut are missing, its at the bottom of the door; find it and reinstall. Locktite is your friend.

Put the plastic back in place using the same gooey black stuff. It really does perform limited sound barrier but mostly protects the inside of the panel from moisture.

Hope this helps...

Oh, it's similar. Nice write up, Scotty.

Benito -- let us know what you find. I've got the same rattle but have come to accept that I will never be able to fix it. Prove me wrong and give me hope!

Bill
