Thread: rear brake question....

i'm looking to do the b13 rear p10/maxima brake swap to have larger rear brakes. i got the calipers from a yard earlier and read that i can swap over the parking brake hardware. do i need the caliper bracket from the maxima too? i the smaller nx rear discs now so theres a bracket there but will it work? i'm asking because i didn't bring the right size wrench for the bracket bolts. and as i was driving i thought that maybe i don't need the maxima bracket after all.

The e-brake cable brackets that bolt onto the calipers didn't work from my '94 SE-R. I was told I'd have to find a G20 to get them off of so I went to the junk yard and got some off of a P10 I believe. I had to grind down the alignment dowel on the bracket, but after that they worked out. Alignment dowel apparently isn't needed to keep them in place as mine have stayed fast for a long while now.

You have an NX? Not sure how that changes things. Shouldn't change anything if the rear suspension on all B13s (SE-Rs and NXs) are the same. The problem with the B13 e-brake cable bracket is that it puts the cable in the same spot as the radius arms.

what about the actual caliper mounting bracket?

The rear caliper is two pieces basically. One piece holds the piston(s) and fluid. When you buy this it's called an "unloaded" caliper. The other piece is just a simple bracket that floats on the caliper and I guess it is the part that actually mounts to the knuckle? My memory is fading. This piece is absolutely needed, and is the extra piece that comes when buying "loaded" calipers. Normally there's no need to buy this part when replacing a caliper because it's a non wear item and non-serviceable. It's just a bracket. For this reason it's not common to buy and a Maxima owner would buy the "unloaded" caliper. You need both pieces though.

It was the shape of the bracket. It would bolt on to the larger caliper, no problem. It just put the cable in a weird spot. The bracket basically interferes with the radius arm, or forces the cable to interfere. One of the two.

If you can find a 94 altima se those brake brackets work... and I believe the whole brake assembly is the same as the max. thats what im using on my nx. the consensus is that you can use the 94 rear maxima brackets too if they are disc, but they are tough to find at the u-pull.

the u pull on seymour still has the max, its a 92. the caliper mounting brackets are there i just didn't have the right size tools. it all came apart pretty easy so i'll go back.

are you saying the altima e-brake brackets work as well as the g20?
