It means it has 8 counterweights, which I believe is the full amount for a inline 4cyl engine. Counterweights can help absorb vibrations and torque "pulses" when the engine is running. A full counterweighted crank is heavier, but smoother, and one with less counterweights is lighter (so revs faster, and makes a little bit more power), but has harsher vibrations. The vibrations and pulses can effect engine longevity.

I didn't know the DE was an 8cw crank, no wonder you guys can run without harmonic balancers...

Damn! I never even thought about that. My pulley got seperated also when I used one of those cheap pulley pullers. Not even thinking about the timing marks I just threw the **** back on! LOL maybe I should keep these pullies after all! I cant believe I even did that!

Then you should check your timing.. And replace that Crank Pulley...
Im happy with the car as-is now. Not changing anything for a while til Im confident everything is running fine..

^Man I told DC I would send him a stock one. He kept wanting my UR pulleys and said everybody in Maryland knew he was looking for one. I was trying to help him out, but I wasn't going to give up my 4 piece that I'm going to use on my turbo build.

Yep.. I probably wasnt that clear enough.. But all is good.
I wanted to switch to UR but since I couldnt find one, went with OEM.
Amazing that we found 2 bad crank pulleys in a month!!

Yep, you did try to help me out. But, I had access to several stock pulleys locally (Jensen, Joel, Rob, & Brad).
I knew that you wasnt going to sell the 4 piece set. But, I decided to ask anyway..
