Thread: and god said "Fourth??, well its just not going to be there anymore" lol

So Im driving my car today lol and Im getting on it and having fun with it since its a nice day. Well Id been getting on it and then I just kinda was just cruising. I get on the onramp to the highway, turn the boost controller to high boost (about 19psi), sit in fourth as I normally do (I didnt shift into fourth I was already in it) and floored it doing about 50mph. What happens? Boost builds and then all the sudden NOTHING lol. My revs just go up! I figured that I had made the clutch slip or something so I let off and hit the gas again easy. It just revs lol. I put it into all the other gears and the work fine. But fourth is stripped out and the tranny is making a nasty noise! Luckily I have a tranny that I just took off of my other NX that I just bought. This tranny needed to be swapped out anyway!

Has anyone ever done this. The tranny had 5th gear pop out and also has 250k original miles on it. But I was always under the impression that 4th gear was one of our strong gears. I know its my favorite gear on this car. Hell anytime I do a pull I never even have to downshift if im going 45mph or faster. Just hit the gas and boost pulls you all the way to 120.

But has anyone ever done this? Is 4th gear prone to this with high Hp cars?

This is the 2nd time I have ever heard of a 4th gear going out on a SR20 gear box.

My dude Lance did it in his old B13 and he was sitting on about 400-425 whp at the time.

torque kills boxes, sounds like that td05 of yours is putting out a **** load of it! They are a very torquy turbo...this is why they are soo much fun

Swapped it out today for my new box! MAN it feels good to have fifth back! I have no idea how it happend lol. But it literaly sounded like 5th gear pop outs "grind" for a split second and then once the boost built it just got quiet and revved lol. It sounded like I had gear box knock! Im guessing I stripped the teeth off the gear Oh well. It was a great motivator to get off my ass and swap the tranny today. Im gonna take it easy on these 4th gear pulls even though they are my favorite! I put Heavy Duty Shockproof in this tranny. Hopefully itll hold up a lil better.


Jerry, this is my off week coming up. So I wont be at work much. I saw you cats riding round on the Dirt bikes. Sounded like yall were drag racing them or some **** lol. But I was busy swapping my tranny out. Ill call you tommorow and see wussup.

good one, well i sheered every gear off in a b14 gearbox but thats because it had a bearing problem, lol the gears misaligned and pulled apart causing the whole thing to happen, this was under boost also. other than that i got a good condition b14 trans and put it in and no problems at all man, 8 months of abuse making about 270whp at same torque or more to around 290whp and same torque for a couple pulls and its still in great shape.
