Radiator Fitment
I was just going to flush my stock radiator, and just decided to replace it. My car is going on 17 years and the radiator's never been replaced... '91 SE-R.

I'm not going to spring for a griffith(sp) or even the bigger koyo. For me it would be over kill. But, I found this one while doing a google search.

http://www.radiatorexpress.com/product.asp?part=1991+NISSAN+NX++%2D+2%2E0+liter+L4+RADIATOR+2%2DRow+Rugged+All+Metal+Upgrade+Replacement&part_id=39517&aaia_id=1211690

I could just buy an nx radiator from a couple of different places for about $120, but the one above is 2" thick, as opposed to the 1 1/16 thick nx radiator. And, it's only $146.

Will the bigger radiator fit/drop in without me worrying about my stock fans being in the way? I know there are some issues with the larger koyo, but I'm hoping that since this is a bit smaller, it will drop in.

correct, i have the dual core full sixe koyo radiator and 2 slim FAL fans on the opposisate mounting side (grill side) otherwise the fitment, well there would be no fitment lol

what is the clearence right now? header to fan distance? you will really need to know that first to know if the fans will get in the way of a inch or so more thickness

Stock header, stock fans... pretty much stock everything, well, except for the suspension, mounts and brakes. I'll have to measure and see if there's room for another inch and 3/8's.

Wow, 2" thick, that's a beefy radiator. You shouldn't have any mounting issues at all. As long as its made for the NX, it drops right in.

Hey Mark,

You should get the radiator that you want. I wouldn't let the fitment of the stock fans limit the size of radiator you want. In my opinion, this is a great oppurtunity to upgrade to a more sleek and effective slim fan. Wiring up slim fans is easier than you think and they are relatively cheap and do a great job of keeping your engine bay cool effectively. Not only does it look cleaner, but you will have more space to work with even if you do keep your stock A/C condensor.

If you need an extra connector to wire the fans to please let me know and I'll send one to you.

Edit: Side Note
If you choose to get an aftermarket header (the SSAC 2.5" specifically), it would be a nice advantage with the slim fans. Some of the 02 sensor bungs are tilted a little too far toward the rad... that resulted in my stock fans tearing my 02 wiring apart - this was with stock fans, and a stock se-r radiator. I just recently rewired a new o2 in and now I'm rockin' the slims.

As usual, just my opinion...

Ya, you should get the one you want. As for fittment, you shouldn't really have problems.

If you do end up getting the one from that link be sure to tell us how it fits and what not. I'm always hesitant about when people say a measurement but doen't show pictures. Ya, I have trust issues...

Great find! An all metal radiator for less than $200? Let us know how the cooling is as well as the fit.

IMO stick with an aluminum radiator, even if it's thinner.

Thanks for the info, Travis... you make a good point. A thinner aluminum radiator will probably cool as well if not better than a thicker all metal. Problem is, the price starts to go up. But, I found 3 listed on the web that aren't the Koyo, Griffith , etc... And, each is under $300.

I think I've got some good choices linked in this thread. Anybody have any other thoughts on any of these?

Will the smaller aluminum radiator(15/16 " thick) cool as well as a 2" thick radiator or even a stock nx radiator? I'm thinking it would, but I just don't know.
