Thread: Draining old fuel

I have a nx200 that has been sitting for over 4 yrs .
I am swapping in a new motor,and want to get all the stale gas out of the tank and fuel system.
Here what I was thinking....
-Drain the tank....not sure whats the best way to do this,maybe unhook the lines under the car below the tank.
-put a few gallons of fuel in,and remove the fuel line after the fuel filter.
-hook a 12v car battery directly to the fuel pump,and pump fresh fuel through the system.

The only thing I am not sure about is the fuel rail and injectors.Can I just pull off the fuel rail and pump gas all the way through them too?

Any advice you guys may have would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is old, but I have the same problem. Only I don't know if my has is as bad as yours was.

I ended up removing the fuel pump and sender units.
Then I pumped out as much fuel as possible with a hand pump siphon.
I scooped out as much of the sediment and rust out of the tank with my hands.
Next,I used a 1x1 shop vac(1hp,1 gal.) to such out all the crap left in the bottom.
Repeat until the tank was clean.

I did have to do it again after about 3000 miles ,as the fuel washed more of the crap into the sock filter area.After that it seemed to be pretty clean.

Good luck,its time consuming and I ended up slicing up my hands and arms pretty good along the way.

Thank you! If I can't get it to start with fuel stabilizer and fuel injector cleaner, I'll end up doing that. I'm trying my darndest to not remove the tank.

you could use the pump to extract most of the fuel from tank.. just disconnect a line and extend it to a line that feeds gas to bucket or something
