Thread: Not Starting.... 2006 Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0L

Having problem with my co-workers car. The Battery is brand new (reads 12.4) and the alternator reads 12.3 and when we crank it the alt does drop to 12.1-ish while the started clicks. Anyone knowledgeable with these trucks? We did try banging the started/solenoid but nothing. it just clicks.

Sounds like the starter to me, the voltage won't go higher than battery voltage until it's running so no need to check the alternator until it's started, the fact that it's staying around 12v when cranking tells me the starter isn't pulling any load when your trying to crank it. Double check all connections at the starter first though just to be sure nothing's loose.
