Thread: Idle issue with B14 (GA16DE)

I am having a minor idle issue with my 200SX SE. When the engine is at idle, and I rev it up a little (like tap the gas pedal, or pull the throttle cable for a second), when the RPM's come back down to idle (around 900-1000), it jumps up to about 1500 RPM and stays there for 3-5 seconds before dropping back to normal. Any ideas on why? Sensor or somethin? The CEL is not on. Please dont say "swap the engine" I dont have time for BS answers. Thanks

Kinda need more details. Is the engine already warmed up? Is it all tuned up? Check the IAC valve (idle air control valve). Start there and see what happens. Vacuum leaks cause idle issues too. Spray throttle body cleaner around some hoses and see if the idle jumps. If it does, you have a leak there.

Ok, I will look over the engine this weekend and check all the hoses and go from there. How do I check the IACV?

Voltameter to test the electrical connector near the throttle body while ur key is turned on but the car off. Should have 12V at least there I think. There's a certain amount of resistance that you can check for too (should be in a Haynes or Chiltons manual). It's been awhile since I owned a GA16 so I can't remember where it is. Now the actual valve itself may have gunk in it too. So take it off and clean it. check to see if that valve is working too with the key in the same position and the connector hooked to it.
