Just as I said in Conner's thread, I just can't get over the looks of wagon's. The Fozz looks a ton better as a 5 door car imo, Leggy/Outback just looks too long.

Running into a few snags with LGT's as I'm researching them.

  • Dual Climate Control is tied to the HU - Can't replace the stereo without briking the climate control. Requires you to buy $400 JDM climate control . You can get a LGT non-limited with manual controls (I hate auto climate control anyway), but then no sunroof or electronic seats
  • No standard folding seats on 05-06. Became standard on 07+ - With such a small trunk, folding seats would be a must for me so would have to find and swap in 07+ rear seats.
  • No Auto Up Driver's window - Looks like might be a federal law might be at fault for this (EDM swap looks to be possible)
  • Can't raise windows after car has been turned off (been loving this feature on the P11)

Those things caused me to actually reconsider getting an LGT (plus I do kind of need a bigger car for long trips). I started looking at Altima's again, this time at their reliability and what not. We all already know that QR Altima's are POS, it didn't take long to find out that VQ Altima's are no better. Looks like it's very common to loose oil pressure, not get warning lights, and engine goes toast. So unless I do an SR20 Altima, Altima's are off my list.

Do you guys have any other suggestions for cars that are sized between 05 LGT and 05 Altima's? I'm looking to spend less then $10k, and would like it to be between 00-07 (no TPMS). I'm still actively looking for an LGT, but I am worried that it will be too small of a car for a "family car".

-the stereo is actually pretty good to begin with
-get a wagon
-not terribly hard to hold the window switch up fir 3 seconds
-wagon

Just messing with you but in all seriousness I was in the same position as you needing an acceptable newer car, needed to be interesting but not a POS, had to hold a ton of photo gear, under $10k... and after all that LGT/OXT it is

Stereo quality is not the concern, being able to use an mp3 player or USB drive is what I need. I haven't used CD's in cars for almost 10 years ha. My current Sony Headunit supports both aux and USB, its awesome to have 16gb of music for 12 hour trips.

Window switch is so nice at toll roads or other places, especially on manuals .

Wagon is tempteting, just can't get over the looks, plus there are less 5MT's out there. We have the Forester for wagon space, it just sucks on mpg (21 highway, but 19 city thanks to side gapped plugs!)

I think I might start modding the FXT, maybe then I won't even need an LGT... I plan on doing the sti up pipe and will see how the mpg goes up, plus will extend the turbo life. So dumb of SOA to put a cat before turbo!!!!

You know the 04 FXT is the worst on MPG. I'm pretty sure the 05+ has better gearing. You need to just accept that all cars have ups and downs and be happy.

I like the Forester a lot but largely given up on higher MPGs, and my drivers window doesn't even work. I've replaced several window swithces and just bought another set.

Yeah the 04 has a different final gear, 4.444 vs 4.111. It helps acceleration but hurts gas milage. Still my fxt revs at 3k rpm at 70mph, better then stock g20...

I think the next issue is tiny turbo on the fxt, scan gauge was showing -10 to -5 inhg at 70mph.

and any throttle puts you in boost.. Remember me telling you that you can just barely keep the car off boost @70mph?

The main problem with FXTs is that like 80% of them are MY04
