On the KA aren't there upper and lower tensioners, I know it sounds stupid but I had an altima with the same issue. I really don't remember the fix but it was something like that. Maybe the chain guides are worn...

Why dont you just pull the motor and do a basic rebuild. Takes a week MAX. A timing chain & front cover/oil pump job take a day.

You are correct, there are upper and lower chains/tensioners. That doesn't sound stupid at all. At this point I actually am leaning towards one of the lower guides as the culprit.

I don't have the space, time, tools, or money to just pull the engine out right now as I am living away at school.

If you can id definatly replace that lower tensioner. I'm almost sure it was the problem I had with an altima I had.

How long did you drive said altima while you had this problem NissanGuy? I might just try and limp this thing through the semester and then figure out a new car situation in may.

I should have taken pictures when I had it all apart but it was 9 degrees out and windy so needless to say, I was in "hurry up" mode. I'll see if I can get to it again but its supposed to rain or snow every day from now until through at least Sunday. I hate Lake Erie.

The lower guides and tensioner should effect the upper timing components. The only thing I can really think if is a bad tensioner or guides or streched chain on on the upper half.
