I have tons of 5w40 rotella I bought on clearance a while back. i used it religiously in the sentra. But the suby recommends 0w20. Takes a lot of oil, this engine. 6 quarts or so.

I may run the 5w40, but I'm kinda getting a feel for how the engine will take a slightly thicker oil before jumping over. The 0w30 castrol is a pretty thick 30 weight. It is nearly as thick as the 40wt.

So you can use Rotella T6 oil on a gas motor even though it's marketed as a diesel oil?

Absolutely. After all, the metal is all the same right?

HDEO oils have much more anti-wear additives to fight aging, since they are rated for industrial use. For your normal oils, they are held to the strictest of emissions compliance standards.

As long as the oil comes in appropriate weights, certainly. Diesel oil tends to come as dino 15W-40 and synthetic 5W-40 and not a whole lot else.

I ran the 5W-40 Rotella T6 in my WRX and will run it for warmer events in the SE-R rally car. Of course I run it in my diesel truck (which is 10 qts, not 12 like I said earlier).

A number of new cars (especially Toyotas) are calling for 0W-20, like the FRS. They do this to improve mileage numbers, and then have a larger than traditional oil sump to help offset the thinner viscosity (keeps oil temps lower) and synthetic (to slow breakdown). Our Sienna calls for 0W-20 at 10K or non-synth 5W-20 at 5K. So I run the Mobil 1 0W-20 (only one I know of offhand that's easily available, not a M1 fan otherwise) there.

as coheed said you certainly can, and i hope you are not using mobil one in that forester of yours, numerous oil analysis from blackstone labs
shows the M1 5w30 breaks down quite a bit in the 2.5 sube motors.

No I never use Mobli one. I spun bearings in two different sr motors using mobil one. It may or may not been oil but didn't want to take another chance. I use AMS oil 10-40 with the high zync in my b14 (much better oil pressure then mobil according to the gauge), Shell Rotella 10w30 non syn $13.24 gallon (motor has 280k). I only have 14k on the forester. First 3 oil changes were at the dealer. Last oil change I did an used Castrol Syntec 5w30 because I couldn't get a hold of ams oil and was going to the drag strip the next day. I can find Rotella T6 out here for pretty cheap so thats why I am intrested in it and also heard that subaru owner like it.

Thanks guys for your input

One of the coworkers at my new site was talking about his FRS....He was like yeah I bought it cash when it first came out, gutted everything behind the front seats, and have 16k in mods already. I asked him oh so you must have a turbo or supercharger.....Nope.....Ah threw it into the suspension huh.......Nope not even that yet.......Ok... He was like jdm aero, headlights, cf hood and trunk, wheels and some other bits and pieces.....hahaha I just shook my head thinking well, seems like a big waste of 16k to me.
