Yea sounds about right, I usually charge 600-800 for timing belts at my shop but I use gates belts and replace all the pulleys rollers and tensioner and also wp which the dealer only does the wp and belt

i HAVE to get belts done on the sentra se-r 08.....if im goign to spend 800 bucks almost for the belts on this fucker, id rather trade it in since we plan on getting rid of anyway.

08 ser has a timing belt? I would of thought they were still chain driven. Interesting

My belts are cracking, didnt mean timing but belts in general, they wanted 500 bucks at the nissan dealer because they are a PAIN to work on apparently.....Want to get rid of the failure anyway.

Told the wife id like to get a 99-01 g20t for her to drive because id rather something i know thats built good than the issues we have with this thing.

Ohh I hate the dealership and chain shops (which I work @) for the fact that everything is over priced. 3x mark up on parts and 100/hr on labor. That's dumb expensive. I would go to a Joe smow garage and pay less than 200 if I was u. U really can't mess up on belts. Just my. 02 cents

Uhhh yeah you can mess up on belts if it is a timing belt job Accessory belts on the other hand are hard to mess up. I also work at a chain and we are crazy expensive.... 3x on parts that are out buys and even more when it is stuff that we stock. Then they pay the techs shit on top of it because they have to pay 8 million managers who do nothing but look at numbers all day and tell you that you need to sell more upgrades, ahhhhhhhhhhh! I hate my job but am stuck there until I find a new one.
Back on topic, as was stated before, timing belts need to be changed due to time or mileage, which ever comes first. They are rubber and crack over time. As far as $800 being too much or not we need to know what they did ie. timing belt alone, belt and water pump, acc belts, seals or pulleys and also what kind of car and engine. $800 is a decent price if it is all the pulleys, water pump, timing belt, accessory belts and seals for most engines.

Yah problem is the warranty, which is 100k and were at 50k. They could void it if nissan dont do it....but im not willing to spend the money to have them do it.

There is lots of local mom and pops shops that over charge aswell . You have to get estimates first. Best thing to do is call ask what there labor rate is then ask to price the job. Allmost all shop like mine have alldata or michells to look up parts cost and labor. Its should'nt take more then a few minutes on the phone . Bottom line is dealerships usualy charge more as they pay their tech's flat rate as most of them are ASE certified . Most Local mom pop shop the tech are not ASE and get paid by the hr . Shop around first .

I was talking about its pretty hard to mess up on a accessory belt but def easy to mess up on a timing belt. Totalled what shop do u work at

Monro.... For now... It is a big change from the last place I worked at, lol. I saw mostly high end euro cars for 8 years before this at an independent shop. Which shop do you work for? Sounds like to Monro to me, lol
