RB2xDET ticking.. lifters??
a friends RB is ticking and he's trying to figure out what it is. Any info would be much appreciated.
from his posts on facebook:
Fulton
who on here has the most knowledge on the RB25DET motor.... i have a tick in my valvetrain... motor is fully built but me and the shop had a falling out so im kinda stuck and not sure why it ticks
McQuern U might try Patton. I know he had an Rb in his 240. Sounds to me like u might have a bad lifter.
Fulton all of that stuff is brand new... i was told that the shims are wrong... not sure
McQuern Ah I see. How many miles have u put on it since replacing everything!
Fulton 1300
Fulton im gonna b in a legal battle.... im missing my injectors and fuel rail and it needs a tune... i just gonna reorder all of it but im gonna do E85 on it and i have half of my e-manage blue i just need the harness's but i may go full standalone
McQuern Um... Rb25 has hydraulic lifters right? Or did u switch over to a solid lifter? I haven't heard of shimming those. only shimming when u do like a valve adjustment. I dunno bro. Only thing I can think is if one of the lifters isn't getting pumped up with oil. Will have to research this.
Fulton yea it has hydraulic lifters.... its driving me crazy... i gotta get that fixed before i put any other parts on it or even tuned... hell it might need to be timed... i had to buy the hitachi NEO CAS just so my HKS cmas would work
McQuern Does it do it all the time cold and warm? Could be misfiring also if ur timing is off like u said. Sorry man trying to help but I dunno.
Fulton your good... when you start it up its there.. like it takes a min for oil to get there or something but my oil pressure is fine on the gauge... then it will quiet done then you rev it up its there... dont make since... its not a crazy tick like something is gonna come apart but it def shouldnt be there
McQuern To be honest and I know I sound like a broken record but it really sounds like u have noisy lifters. I just read it is fairly common on this engine. There was something about flushing them out properly per the fsm. If the shop that built the motor didn't do that then that is probably why it is more noticeable now then it was before u had them build it.
Fulton yea i heard that also... someone told me i may just need dif buckets
Fulton ive had a couple people listen to it and they say it dont sound right of course that worries me... i wont know unless i take it apart i guess.. i just dont know where to begin... thats y im on here askin for help...lol
McQuern Yeah it could be the buckets. I hear ya man. Like I said u might pm Patton and he might know a little more
Fulton ok ill try and get ahold of him
