Recent Tercel issue, cant figgure it.
Hey guys, driving the daily winter beate (97 tercel), and go a CEL. Thoguht it might be random, cleared the code, came back next day. The cel says that I got a missfire on cyl #1. First thing to check is coil pack, so I changed the coil packs around (switched them) so that if it comes up on cyl #2, I know it's a bad coil pack, cyl #1, bad plug or injector. It hasn't come back after a few days of driving. I'd like to figure this out still because I dont want my wife to be stranded one day because I neglected to fix the problem.

Thoughts? Could it be that the other coil pack was weak and coupled with a going plug, and switching it to the stronger coil pack is enough to not cause a miss or...?

I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Maybe it was the plug contacts on the coils corroding, and now that you've swapped them around you've made better contact and all is well?

As for your life being stranded. CEL are basically all emissions related. OBDI and OBDII codes are strictly emissions related, and something like that is extremely unlikely to leave anyone stranded. It's the oil light that is important. And newer luxury vehicles have other important lights. But the CEL is emissions, and can't actually tell you when anything really important is failing. They also love to show false positives as you already know.

It does still bog on me if I put the accelerator in too much. I really dont know what to make of that, but that's been around for much longer than the CEL. Like it wants to go, bog bog bog, then kicks in and goes. Not sure what's up with that.

Nope, I AIM'd you about a power steering pump pully (and the shaft it attaches to!) coming out altogether a month or so ago.

bogging is kinda tricky, what causes bogging?

A rich condition causes bogging

a bad coil pack or a coil going out can cause bogging, due to the a/f mix not burning
