it was announced buy Motor Trend that Subaru said they will have a turbo version of the eng.

Please direct me to that link. Because I googled and found this Subaru Confirms Turbocharged Version of BRZ Engine - WOT on Motor Trend . This doesn't confirm that the car will have the turbo engine.

Sorry I could have sworn they said it will make it to the BRZ yesterday ...Hmmm

The 42mpg caught my eye.

Not sure about the styling...it looks a bit chessy...I'd have to see one in person.

I may be wrong here, but I dont think Subby has the mindset of Steve Jobs (cannibalization of previous/other hardware in the lineup).

I have a feeling the next generation WRX/STI will have this engine, as compared to the BRZ having it. I am pretty sure with the turbo version you run into two problems

1) Price range and which class of cars it falls in
2) Undermining STI/WRX sales

But if they do produce it, it better be less than 30K and circa 245 hp max.........Any more and you directly run into the WRX category.
Dont forget, not all people need 4wd where they live and the inherent loss of gas mileage that comes with the added weight/extra parts.

But here is the kicker; I have a feeling Toyota may be lobbying behind the scenes about using the turbo version of the engine in the 86 version, but that would be entirely pointless to have one chassis have the turbo engine and not the other..................

Boostlee, I feel there is a good reason for a turbo version and a supercharged version. The supercharged version gives you that NA feel but more of it and better power delivery over the turbo version where the turbo setup will be more for the power hungry crowd. 2 cars the same moving in diffrent directions

I also feel that it will not undermine the sales for WRX/STi Imprezas. Two different cars for two entirely different crowds. I don't see them damaging either market with the release of a turbocharged variant. It only makes sense that they do, if TRD is definitely producing a SC for the Scion.

If anything, Subaru would release the '13 model with FI options so that they don't lose market to Toyota.

There's a lot of hype in the Subaru community for these cars, but most don't want to get rid of their AWD whether this car has FI or not. I for one will be purchasing a BRZ and keeping my wagon for versatility.

It sounds underpowered in the video. I think an extra 50-75 would do the trick. The handling looks promising right out of box. A blower would be great for road course duty. I'm keeping an eye on this one.
