Its not about having overwhelming or even big power numbers. Thats not the most compelling need of the initial target market.

Its about having enough power and respectable mpg/emissions with a chassis/suspension that shines when pushed hard. Also I feel the mid-range will be exceptional making it very useful power. It willfeel much faster than it actually is for most buyers.

How many people are comfortable driving a motor that you need to habitually rev up to and over 7k? I know revving out vvl makes a lot of my passengers uncomfortable. Especially since I just sit there kind of stone faced rowing through gears...

A car that I would actually buy over the genesis 2.0t r-spec. Something that a real enthusiast wants built by enthusiasts. I am in awe over this car, something that hasn't been produced since the early 90's.... I really hope the weight stays where they say and they have a factory warrantied TRD supercharger or a TRD or type-s model. Either way, if not, seems as though they built it to be tuned so I'm sure that there will be a whole lineup of TRD parts. Finally someone listened!!!!!!!!!!! I sure hope that they sell out and it makes every car company that didn't used to suck build at least one vehicle like this. I would prefer one like this and a fwd sports hatchback without a ton of weight and a high revving decent stock powered engine that is easily tuneable. I would say Mazda would probably be next in line if this works out along with Hyundai and Kia. Nissan may follow suit but I imagine they will be a few years behind. Honda needs a new s2000 and a civic type r hatch with light weight like they used to be. I am super excited about this. Otherwise, even if I have money to buy a new car, it would be a commuter and I will still modify an older vehicle like most of us still do.

I don't care for a boxer layout simply because it's inefficient from maintenance point of view. It takes my buddy about 2 hours to replace the spark plugs on his H6 Legacy...

Plus having separated headers just for 4 cylinders seems like a waste too. I4 is just makes more sense for 4 cylinders.

weighing in a 2700lbs and only having a 250 whp doesnt seem like itll be a very quick car by anymeans.

a great platform most likely but out the gate performance, not so sure...

stratton.

250whp for 2700lbs car??? Where do I sign up! I had 230whp on 2660lb Sentra and it was plenty fast. It could compete with any stock turbo/na cars.

What???? I love the boxer rumble, being turbo and with an STI muffler I get a similar rumble but different at the same time. Everyone who heard me driving new it was me because of the unique (not in a bad way) exhaust note.

It looks better in this blue. The tail lights still scream ricer. They should have called it a Celica. To me this car fills more of the Celica role and not the cheaper role the AE86 had. I'll stay tuned. I probably need to get into a newer car. Twenty year old cars do have their drawbacks, lol.

Oh and I think it would have been better for Toyota to sell this car as a Toyota and not a Scion. I think they are trying to save Scion, but Toyota is the brand that needs a shot of cool.

Not a huge fan. With that much (little) power it needs to be under 2800lbs. Hopefully they stick to their goal. I do like that it's nearly the same size as the 3rd gen Miatas, real neat.

Edit: Nevermind saw the weight for the Subaru with the CF hatch. Seems like it will be the next S15.

How about a NA 250 bhp (225 whp), 2.2 liter VE Sentra B13 SE-R? Would that be quick enough?

OK. Now put your big buddy, who weighs 200 lbs, in the passenger seat.

Bada-bing. I'm with Vadim.

See my example above.

Definitely sounds plenty fast to have way too much fun.

Awesome article and photos.

Amazing really. Never figured a big manufacturer would ever get a clue.

Delete the wing. Might have to have Tearoffguy do something to the taillights to make them a bit less altezza'ish. Both of which are minor and relatively easy aesthetic fixes.

Toyota and Subaru are going to sell a shit-ton of those.
