This is like perpetual motion machine. You can make a model that works, talk it up, and most think it is great. Then you can't ever make it work because of huge design flaw.

This design creates a very large diameter to get ratios and strength.

I've driven several cvt cars. Older muranos are pretty lame. I drove a cvt 2.5 altima, it was responsive nad not slow. When you put it in manual shift mode it would shift quicker than any manu matic type car I've driven.

well either you missed how it worked or can't read what I wrote. I was being nice.

I was saying that taking that concept and making it usable in a car would require radical redesign. Not just material and scaling. I had 3 people respond to me that it was a prototype with plastic gears. Really? Thanks...

like I said... To get usable strength to transmit the power and a usable overdrive you get an unusable size.

btw if anybody want a perpetual motion generator I can tell you how to design one to power a light bulb... Scaling it up doesn't work tho.

wnwright, the mechanical advantage doesn't come from differing sizes of gears. There is nothing to "scale up". The ratios come from the difference in speed between the rotation of the planet gear compared to the sun gear. So that's one of your gripes gone.

As for making this applicable for an automobile everything needs to go to metal obviously, and the gears need to be helicoidal instead of straight-cut to avoid whining noise. That will put a lateral load on the case but standard transmissions are used to that.

There has been talk of balance issues with a large eccentric on one side (and other minor imbalances) and that seems to be the biggest question mark right now.

Its simple so I like it. If you strip a gear it will likely be the planet one (?) on the inside so theoretically maintenance will be easy rather than catastrophically expensive for your average consumer. Some performance possibilities. At the very least the guys with belts and cones will have to step up their game.
