thats pretty funny. sometimes i do, sometimes i dont. im no mechanic, but i follow instructions pretty well. damn near everything ive done is from this forum and its members. but for sure b13 dizzy? no. i did the swap and used dizzy from the blown vvl that i got the car with. no telling what previous owner modded or did otherwise. i have 2 distibutors, one part number ending in 53j01 the other in 53j02. the latter i jus realized i had in boxed up parts gathered from junk yards. 53j01 is the one i was fixing with parts from your write up

I got all psyched up to do all this shit on my leaking distributor, bought $30 worth of seals, rings and gaskets at the Nissan dealership. Popped the dizzy off and noticed that all the leaking was coming from the bracket that bolts to the head. Replaced just the o ring on the can shaft side and everything is fixed. I'll hold on to the other seals I got for future use. Thanks for the diy, it was helpful in motivating me to fuck with the thing in the first place.

Ok. I did this today but forgot where does the golden washer go??? (didn't see pictures or anyone mention this piece in the steps. I noticed the black thin washer type deal though)

Let's see if I can figure out how to put up a picture lol. Been a LONG time haha. Otherwise shoot me your number in PM and I'll send you a picture that way. I want to say it went between the Seal and bearing but I knew I should've taken step by step pictures just to be safe. I had to leave for work and when I came back I totally forgot.

ps Thanks for making this DIYer

If you can email it why not just post it? Someone else might encounter what you have and that info should be in here.

What you see in my pictures in the initial post are exactly what I encountered as I took mine apart.

Ok..my internet searching has brought me here....I hope that this thread is still open and that you can at least point me in the right direction. I have a 96 altima gxe that has started to eat distributors. in searching for a repair for the problem...it seems as if you guys might have the answer...I've got to go back through the posts and pull out numbers...esp. the one who made reference to replacing the seal on the engine cover..I am apparently leaking oil into the distributor.. the car has 228,00 mi and is still running strong.. when it runs...it is getting frustrating...any suggestions/advice will be appreciated..Let me know if i'm in the wrong place...but the part number I was searching on brought me here..it was the part number for the seal. thanks

@cnicely you're new here and posting in the How To section so your post was flagged for approval. I have approved it, but you might get clearer advice if you start a new thread (in the General SR20 section) for your issue and link back to this thread as a reference point.

We will help you as best we can.

There are maybe 4 oil seals that could be causing your problem. You also have two devices* built into the distributor (it incorporates a CAS as well) that could fail, and which one is failing might help you hunt down the seal that is bad.

If you are going through multiple distributors, the odds are your valve cover seal or cam cap seal is bad, allowing oil to foul the distributor and/or Cam Angle Sensor (CAS).

There are a few oil seals on the distributor itself, but they are less suspect if you've gone through multiples.

*Well I think that is the case. What engine do you have? KA24DE I think?

Ben
Thanks for the reply...didn't realize that the posts needed to be approved.. but that is a good thing..I thought about starting a new thread, but when I noticed that there was fairly recent activity I went with what was there. I was working on pulling numbers off for parts location and ordering. I was wondering about the seals on the valve cover or cam cap...I would think that that is more my problem than faulty distributors. This is the only place that I found a fairly detailed discussion on this issue..It has taken me forever to track this down and find some hard information. I will start a new thread with the link to this..should be able to figure how to do that. I will look up what engine is in it..I think you are correct from what I remember but I well double check on that. give me a bit to get things changed around... and we'll pick up on a new thread..
