Free clutch cable mod for more adjustment
So,I needed to get more adjustment out of my clutch, and came up with something easy, fast and FREE(most likely you have one of these laying around)
I never have liked the home depot spacer mod.
I have tried redrilling the bracket and moving it back...that works, but seems like you lose some strength that way.
The spacer I made essentially does the same as the spacer on a Miko tranny saver bracket does...but without the leg, just the spacer.
Actually it is not a spacer at all,but a washer that pushes the mounting point back...and quite nicely,I must say
It was a FREE 5 minute fix.I used a washer from a swaybar endlink and drilled it out slightly. It is contoured perfect to fit in the hole the cable goes through, and also cup the rubber part to keep it from moving around.
Heres a couple pics.Maybe you can see what I did.
The pics are actually from the second time I did this.It worked so good on my buddies car,I did it to my car
Parts needed
-Your clutch cable.
-Swaybar endlink washer(conical/domed shaped one)
-Unibit or equivilent step-bit (harbor freight step bit is what is pictured.Much cheaper and works great)
OR if you dont have a step bit/uni-bit,you can just drill the hole out slightly larger with a regular bit.The step bit just keeps the hole centered, which is not really important in this case.
-A bench vise is VERY helpful to hold the washer while you drill.
Dis-assemble the clutch cable completely ,taking notice of how it all goes back together.
I usually just lay the parts down in order of how they came off.
Ultimately you need to get the rubber accordian boot off the cable to expose the plastic"nipple" that the boot connects to.
Drill out just enough to clear the plastic after you pull the accordian boot away.It will POP on if you get the hole just right.
Try not to make it too big or it will have more slop in it.Put the rubber boot back on after the washer. It should still snap back on like it was and keep dirt out like before.lt will hold the washer in place perfectly.
Perfect fit on the bracket
Perfect fit on the rubber part.
