how to: make your clutch assembley feel more ridgid
i had already done the 97ยข Brass reducer clutch cable adjustment
but... i still couldnt shift smoothly
i was having these issues after my manual swap.
heres what i used to stiffen everything up and add a LITTLE more play to the clutch lever while preventing the reducer from cutting into the rubber on the clutch cable.
easily found in the electrical department of either Home Depot or Lowe's:
its called a conduit locknut.
i bought a pack of 3/4" locknut conduits to slip onto the part of the rubber gasket that would slide into the reducer. the ones i found in this size only came in a pack of (4), i only had to use (1) though.
fits like a glove. you have to wiggle it to get it on cause its a tight fit but after it does get on there your golden.
i also bought two 1" conduit locknuts to sit right at the end of the copper reducer on the 1" side [facing the firewall] and all together they add about 3mm of play. i know it sounds minuscule, but thats a good 5-10 threads you don't have to use before you cant tighten up the clutch adjustment nut anymore.
now, to make adjustments i had my brother get in the car and step down on the clutch pedal and stuck a large screwdriver in there while (using the grooves on the transmission as pivot points) when he released his foot, the screwdriver would hold the lever in place so i could loosen with ease.
to tighten you just have to repeat the "step, release, tighten. step, release, tighten" process a few times until you get it where you want it to be. i"m sure theres a way to do it alone, but this seriously made it a 5 minute process. literally. i came home from Home Depot, let the engine cool down while i made a sandwich and some Tang. then went out, did the adjustment and within 5 minutes we left to go to the mall.
prior to all this i had to slam the pedal all the way to the floor and push it hard into 1st gear AND crunch it into reverse which i knew would all eventually eat away at my gears. now its like a whole new clutch assembly. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah ***
don't forget i ALSO used that Cable Life lubricating spray on my car last month. so now its seriously like butter
i like driving again !!!! hahaha
P.S.
i'll have pics up manana. i know it may sound kinda confusing where it all goes, but once you see the where i put it all it makes more sense
