How to : disassemble & regrease starter
my girls G20 automatic starter was taking a crap , she would get stranded at work, at the store, i kept having to go to where she was and hit the starter to get it to turn over, after having to rescue her 4 times i decided to take it apart and clean & regrease it.
Remove starter from the car( there should be a sticky or how to removing from the car. ) and take out the 2 long 8 mm bolts that hold the 3 pieces together.
you will need an 8 mm socket ( preferably a 3/4 in drive ) to crack loose the 2 bolts. If they feel tight, spray some PB blaster & let it soak.
then remove the 12 mm nut that holds the ground and grind or sand it down.
Don't use a wrench it'll be hard to crack it loose, use a socket. Then take apart the 3 parts and use brake clean and clean the living sh*t outta the middle piece ( that holds the magnets )making sure it's squeaky clean, make sure theres no rust or other particles attached to the magnets .
The lower part that holds the 3 gears you can just use any kind of grease ( i used high temp synth. grease ) and grease those.
put it all back together and put it back in.
It is super easy, i think taking it out of the car was harder. Total time spent , about 1.5 hours time, you can save yourself about 100+ dollars by doing this, and you'll have a squeaky clean starter thats reliable. And if it takes a dump again in the future? Do it again and save another 100+ bux.
I did this like a month ago and it has been turning over every time ever since.
remove 2 8 mm long bolts.
take apart ( if it's stuck don't be afraid to tap it with a hammer )
there you go
