Thread: P10 Power steering pump replacement: Tips, tricks, advice?

So I thought I had a leaking high pressure hose and asked for pointers here...

After installing the hose the leak continued and I have just identified the pump as a leaker and it needs to be replaced. It's in an awfully tight spot so I need pointers, tips and advice please.

Remove the passenger side axle and you've got plenty of room.

Hey, help a friend take it out on a p11 with A/C. We got it out the bottom with the pulley this on it. He just turn it around and got it out pass the axle. Only thing we took off was the Pass wheel and splash shield by the belts(plus hoses).

It's simple to remove the axle and makes the PS pump replacement easy as hell. You can spend the 10 minutes it takes to pull the axle and save yourself a ton of aggravation and cursing, or you can leave it in and fight with it.

Yeah it's pretty easy to remove/install the passenger side axle, and it frees up a ton of space. The driver's side is another story because of the stupid circlip on the end of the spindle. That thing is usually a pain to align, even with the grease trick.

I was hoping to have gotten this done over the weekend, but I woke up feeling like shit yesterday and still feeling it today, UGH. Hoping for nice weather next weekend.

I have to do the lower control arm and shock absorber on that side too. The shock is blown and the bushing on the LCA is shot from the power steering fluid leaking on it. So I'm thinking to do it all at one shot will give me needed room and kill three birds with one stone.

Pump is out and I'm breaking for lunch! Took about an hour with the LCA and shock still on the car, and minimal cursing too.

MF pump is in! And I forgot to pick up power steering fluid. Oh well, as if I needed a reason to take a break and go for a ride in the SE-R.

I'm putting the OEM Nissan pressure hose back in as it was not leaking and the cheap-ass replacement hose is just that. I'll keep it for a spare.
