Thread: Weird idle after Thermal Block Spacer Install

I installed my thermal block spacers today, and everything went well with the acception of some brackets not going back on right due to the fact that the entire manifold is more spaced out from eachother and pushed back a good amount because of the ticker spacers. One of the biggest issues I had was that the EGR pipe wasn’t long enough to go back onto the studs on the EGR and reach behind the intake manifold where it reconnects. I tried to bend it and ended up kinking the pipe. I fix the length issue by cutting and using a rubber tubing to reconnect them.
The issue im having now is that the idle on my car is being weird..it goes from 1500 to 1300 back to around 1000 which is what my car normally did.

My thought is that the EGR pipe being bent is causing this but im not sure if the EGR effects the idle of the vehicle. I know many others have installed the thermal block spacers and maybe you could lend me a hand.

I triple checked all my vacuum lines as I was connecting them and after I connected them and at the end of the install so im hoping I didn’t miss one,

Any help is appreciated and hopefully I can get this idle issue resolved.

And also this is on a 2002 G20 so im on the RR SR

use carbcleaner with the car on . spray it along the intake manifold you should see the idle increase if theres a leak. spray it everywhere you think there would be a leak.

Make sure your throttle is closing all the way. I have these on my P10 and the throttle plate wasn't closing all the way so I had to adjust the little screw out almost all the way and then make the necessary adjustment to my TPS after that.

Or make sure that your TPS voltage isn't out of wack after the install in case it got knocked loose or something.

i thought letting car cleaner get into the engine could damage your O2 sensors?

and i dont have an idle adjustment screw, but since the manifold got pushed back it is possible there is a little more tension on the TB.

also, the idle is getting better, its actually staying from 1100-1000, and in some cases it goes down to 800ish where it used to be.

is it possible that the gaskets just have to break in?

carb cleaner doesnt mess up your o2 unless your literally dumping 2 cans into your intake manifold..

Yea carb cleaner around that area while car is running is a great idea to tell if the gasket is leaking.

Easiest way to determine if a gasket is bad on the intake IMO

but would it effect the the thermal block spacers? since they arent metal like the OEM ones? they felt more absorbent like they would hold in some of the car cleaner..which i doubt is a good thing
