Thread: 5th gear pop out

i have a 1992 with 5 speed, 5th gear pop put so bad that it wont hold it not even for a second. I am alos getting a rattle sound i think is from the trans. when i press on the clutch the noise goes and if i let go of the clutch i hear it again. i am thinking input shaft bearing but not sure.

have you ever heard of this type of noise coming for the case?
what is the latest prices for 5th gear pop out and the bearings

also would you happen to know how many bearings are in the case?

you're right, sounds like input bearing. There are 4 total.

There are a few threads around here in regards to the rattle you are hearing. Just search and you will find a couple. From what I remember its the throw out bearing you are hearing and installing a new OEM one with NEW clips will solve it. Greg Can get you those also.

i installed my vvl in august of 2011 but back in January of 2011 my clutch fell apart so i had to order a new one. I installed that new clutch and got a new throwout bearing but no clips came with it. i had to order them from Nissan took about a week to get them but i got it all installed and it ran good no issues. then around May or June i started to hear that rattling noise and i thought maybe i got a bad throwout bearing so when i got the vvl in august i got a new throwout bearing but reused the clips as they where still good. after installing the vvl the rattling noise became louder. i know its not the vvl as that engine runs perfect and has no noises coming from the block.

i know the trans has 5th gear pop out so im going to order that kit soon and when i have the trans open i will inspect those bearings inside to see if that's the cause.

i just want it to sound nice cause all the noobs think its my engine (pfft till i smoke them all)
