Clutch kit HP ratings and price questions.
Hey Greg, a while back we talked about a clutch for my turbo engine. I said 275 HP was the goal and you mis-heard me and thought I said 225 HP so you recommended your "stage 2" clutch kit and said it was good to 250 HP. I said I was looking for 275 HP and you heard me correctly the second time and recommended your "stage 3" clutch kit, saying it was good for about 350 HP.

I got the stage 3 kit and have recently installed it.
Around the same time I also asked for a stock replacement clutch kit for my brother's car and I'm assuming you sent the "stage 1" clutch kit.

I'm looking at the kits now for a friend who is planning on making 250 HP tops and I'm having trouble recommending a kit. Have you changed them around since I ordered maybe 8 months ago? Or did I really get the kit rated for 225-250 HP? I certainly didn't get the kit with one metal face on the clutch. Also I recall the prices being quite a bit different (maybe you were running a sale?).

Also the clutch I got looked a lot more like the B15 clutch than any of the ones in those clutch kit pictures. Maybe that was part of the difference back then in the kits?

I'm just confused. Maybe you could straighten me out.

Ben,
Hmmm... I don't recall exactly, but the stage 3 would be the 225-250 HP set up, and the stage 4 with the metal one sided disc would be the one for the big HP (350). I did sell you a stage 3 and a stage 1. Stage 1 would be for your bro'. Are you making 275? Is the clutch holding up? That was last year at this time, right?

You're scaring me.

Not yet. The turbo is going on soon with plans of an easy 275 WHP, maybe a tad more. Trying to keep 3rd gear happy.

I just put it in two weeks ago. Seems no "grippier" than a new, stock unit with my 150 WHP.

Yah, that sounds about right.

What the hell happened? I'm not the kind of person who enjoys clutch jobs, or can just devote a day to this sort of thing. The plan was to do this once.
I'll post pics of the clutch disc and you can let me know if it is a B15 disc or not. If it is, does that help me any?

Arrrrggghhhhh!

You can call or PM me if you'd prefer...

Thanks for talking with me today Greg. I know it's your memory vs. my memory. I wouldn't bring this up if I weren't 100% sure about it.

It seems I have the "stage 3" kit pressure plate and for some reason I definitely have the B15 disc (I realize this is a more expensive part). I know you said the difference between the stage 3 and stage 4 kits was the single metal faced clutch disc, but what does having the B15 disc do to my power holding? Is it better, the same, or worse than the disc that normally comes with the stage 3 kit?

As we covered over the phone, I'm going to get this turbo installed ASAP and see how long it lasts. There will be some time spent at lower boost levels for tuning and then I'll open her up and see what happens. I'll let you know when I'm going to need that "stage 4" clutch disc and we can talk about what ever deal we think is appropriate then.

The stage 3 kit is the JWT PP with B15 disc. The stage 4 substitutes the metal 1 sided disc for the b15. better grip. everything else between stg3 and stg 4 is exactly the same.

I see. Thanks for clearing that up. If the stage 3 kit comes with the B15 disc, you might want to mention that on the website just for clarity purposes. Also if it's used on any of the other kits as well. I know you said you went over them to make sure they were as clear as possible. Seems like a spot for improvement is all. Thanks again for being so helpful.

Edit: Yah... So I just re-read the description and it says 2k SE disc. That's a B15 disc all right, and it's always said that. I guess I was just being dense. Sorry about that. Maybe have it say "2000 SE (B15) disc" just for those as knuckle headed as me? Same with the stage 2 kit... I dunno, do what ever you want. It is pretty clear in the text. It's just the disc in the picture isn't a B15 disc so it gets slightly confusing. Sorry for rambling, do what ever you feel like. You can lead a horse to water, right?

Changes made in bold. That's what I'd do unless you want it to get a lot wordier...

I thought it would be real nice too if stages 1 and 2 described more clearly which clutch and pressure plate was used. I sort of took a guess and filled in what I thought it would be. Triple check everything.
