Thread: How To: Rebuild a T25/T28 Turbo (PIC HEAVY)

The only thing I don't like, is that he did nothing to prevent having to re-balance the turbo. Looks like he just slapped it back together, and used the NEW nut that came with the rebuild kit, rather than use the nut that was ALREADY BALANCED to the shaft that he used. He'll end up with another blown turbo because of the shaft not being balanced, and the turbine running itself out on the bearings.

Aside from that, I like this thread better

Oh yeah, and soaking in brake clean/parts cleaner is the same. Gasoline will work by far better (already working better in 1 hour of soak time, vs. all night in parts cleaner).

Problem is that parts cleaner removes grease build up and dirt/grime, but doesn't do a good job of cleaning up carbon and oils that were baked onto parts at over 1100 degrees.

So the nut that holds the shaft in the housing has to be reintalled i nthe exact same position as it was taken apart?

Yes. To minimize the possibility of bearing/shaft failure and propeller/housing contact, you MUST install EXACTLY as you took it apart. You'll see when I finish, how the nut is shaved to match the area of the compressor wheel that has also been shaved.

thinking of spraying my compressor with 500* engine enamel. will that be ok?

Compressor should be fine with 500 deg. Paint. That's what I used. Chra and turbine should see no less than 1200 deg. Paint.

Have you considered offering this service to forum members?
I wanted to do this on my turbo but my friends and I lack the proper tools to do so...
