i'm guessing this is what you mean Tek?

Exactly. Thanks for posting that. One thing I failed to mention was removal of the piston rings that are on the thrust collar and on the turbine wheel. When I start the rebuild I'll snap pictures of removing/re-installing them.

Item #6 is the thrust bearing, btw. That image is from GPopShop, right?

yes that image is from GPopShop. I wanted to buy the T25 kit, but i had never done a rebuild before.

I ddnt notice the tools you would be using, or how to seperate the 2 housings ?

Are they just bolted together using 4 of the #19 bolts in the diagram?

Keeping this in mind, you still need the exhaust housing and compressor housing to be lined up so that you don't fight with the turbo after mating it to the manifold, and don't fight with the compressor housing to line it up to your chargepipe. It's MUCH easier to line it up as I showed, rather than try to loosen the bolts and rotate the housings after it's already in the car.

ah i got it. So to make a long story short , if i understand you correctly, mark everything BEFORE taking it apart, so that it can be put back together the way it was taken apart?

Yes. Both housings are held onto the center cartridge with 13MM bolts. 6 on the Compressor side (two holding the wastegate onto the housing), and 4 on the exhaust housing. There's a Snap Ring (big SOB that's hard to pull off), that's also on the compressor housing. The length of the exhaust housing bolts is longer than the compressor housing bolts.

What is pictured (#19) is only for the exhaust housing. They do not show part numbers for the compressor housing, as they are different. Most rebuild kits do not involve anything other than the snap ring and o-ring for the compressor housing.

lol yeah i was talking to him on the phone and i was telling him that vadim should have left it on the turbo section since more people will actually see it and probably use the guide. i mean how many people actually check the how to section??? i was telling him that vadim should make this a sticky in the turbo section when he is done

Hoping it will be a sticky when I'm finished with it. I figured that I used two posts for the teardown, so it'll take two posts for the build-up.

A side note: Parts cleaner doesn't work very well when soaking the turbine wheel. Almost NOTHING came off, so I phoned a friend and he said that he uses gasoline to soak the turbine wheel and housing, to eat away the carbon and oil coking. I took a trip to get a few gallons in a can, and used an empty gatorade powder can to pour the gasoline into. I'll check the wheel in a few hours, but for now I'm going to clean out the turbine housing with the dremel, and then VHT the center cartridge and turbine housing to help protect from the elements (keep surface rust from appearing).
