Thread: Oil pressure on a DET

FSM says no less then 14 psi at idle is good. And at 3500rmp you should see 47-61 psi (50-64 if GTi-R).

On mine, I have spiked out my gauge (100 psi) once or twice when it was cold. My numbers are around what GSRMx sees, though my idle is around 25ish (+10/-5)psi.

yeah I just checked that I don't know where I found that 12 number at.

I have straight 30wt in for break in, because I just re built it maybe that has something to do with it

my needle jumps around a bit at high rpm, but I think it is the crappy quality Faze gauge I bought at the Zone. It seems fine until higher rpm when the car is cold and sees about 80-100psi. This is a gtir pump in my ve-t though. At idle with the oil temps very hot I have never had it go below 25psi. In normal driving it is around 40-50 in 90* weather.

In cold weather (Rotella 5w40 oil btw) the car pegs the needle at 100psi at very low rpm. Like 3k. My car is hardly the standard, but somehow I manage better oil pressure with my GTIR pump than I did with the stock VE one. I wonder if it was worn out or something? Oh well, the GTIr pump is working really well for me so far.

I run a thicker oil (0w50) and my idle pressure after a few drag passes is ~20psi. In fifth gear at about 3k rpm my pressure is 80psi. My guage pegs out past 100psi when I really get on it.

Just an update:

10w30 Mobil 1 at around 3900ft elevation, warm idle is around 23psi, and under load it peaks around 75psi.

This is with the VE pump on a 78E DET.

Mine sits at 75 for about a minute after cold start up. Then slowly lowers to 20 at full warm up at idle ( idles at 950...yes i know it's a little high ). Cruising at 3500 it sits at 50 psi. This is with 10w30 Mobil 1.
