Thread: Oil pressure on a DET

Whats the max I should be seeing? I'm looking at picking up some gauges and need to know if the 0-80 psi one will be enough or if I need to go with the 0-100.

I think the 80 one might get pegged, but does it matter how high your oil pressure is... not to me it doesn't. It does matter how low it gets, and when it starts jumping around and the jumping is not related to the idle (low oil )

The most I see is 64 I'm guessing that is a bad thing...but I get 12psi at idle hmm

It's all relative to the type of oil you use, and the oil temps.

What oil are you using sneaky, that your oil pressure is so low?

On 10w30 Mobil 1 at warm idle, I'd see around 25~30psi of oil pressure.

Uhh ohh I'm using 10w30 something must be wrong. What causes low oil pressure? oil pump? I was never really sure where my oil pressure should be but at start up it stays around 40psi regardless of rpm then will fall to 12-15 when I'm at warm idle and it raises fine up to around 56-60 as I go through the rpms.

I think your gauge might be off. my gtir warm, at idle its 12 psi which the FSM states is correct. driving around maybe at 3K its at 25-30psi, and the most I see once warmed up at high rpm is 50-60. on a cold day with thick oil its around 80 on startup

My idle is around 1300~1400rpm. The most I see warmed up under WOT pulls is around 60~70psi. I don't really have cold days here Coldest maybe is around 70degrees in the morning during the summer, and around 30~40 degrees in the winter. I haven't driven the car in winter months yet.

Are you sure you got a GTi-R? those numbers are very low to be an R... Tipically a GTi-R reads around 30-40 in warm idle, and goes up to 70-80 revving.

the most i see out of my gauge is 55psi ..can there be something wrong.. plus i need to change the braided line cause its about 3ft to the sensor...

DE´s and BB and Avenir DET´s is ok to have around 12psi warm idle and peaks of around 50, GTi-R´s and VVL´s have more pressure.
