yeah if you have the DE gear in the VE pump case you got a big gap (gear to cover clearance) when it should be within the thousandths IIRC. Not gonna pull and pump oil that away. BUt you already figured it out. Hope it's running soon.

That's our kitchen table. Kinda dirty right now, need to go somewhere to buy some specialty marble polish to clean it up. I didn't realize how soft marble was. Rings and stains all over it.

Yah, that's exactly what was going on. I noticed after I pulled it back off yesterday, that there's a HUGE gap, so what you said is right. Hopefully I won't have any issues with the bearings once I get her started back up. The crank pulley was also grindig against the timing cover, so that may be what the noise was, too.

i will be doing something similar to this if i ever get my ve pump and front cover from greg. im sure its been answered b4, but just to prevent me having to go through the same hassle of mulitple teardowns. i am using a ve pump on a det what spacer do i need?
