I have them on my VE and they are just fine.

I have heard the OEM ignition system is pretty good right out of the box, so long as it's not corroded or damaged. I know there was a time that aftermarket wires were not so good, but maybe that has changed

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to get some OEM wires just to see if it is in fact the thundervolts.

I think all of my spare parts are still in storage in Texas, but I'll check. I know I have a few sets of OEM wires. Call Nathan, I know he has some. Save a little bit of money at least if that's not the problem

LMK I'll call Nate Dogg today sometime and see if he can shoot me a set.

I don't know why, but I have my suspicions that the Thundervolts aren't working properly. I'm going to gap the plugs a lot lower, too. Right now they're at .030, so I'm thinking I'll take them down to .025 and see what happens.

Sooo.... I pulled the plugs

Plug number four had damn near no gap whatsoever. May have been damaged when I pulled the head off, can't say for certain.

Just put new 7's in at .030 gap, and it does definitely seem better, ALMOST. She's more responsive, and if I hold the idle around 3K, I see around 14's~15's on the wideband.

Let it just idle and it goes off the scale again, but smells uber rich. I'm definitely beginning to think that the plug wires are crap. I'm going to get OEM tomorrow and replace them, then see where I stand. I don't think it's a fuel related issue due to the fact that when I hold the revs high, it leans out and is really consistent.

Oh yeah, and before I forget:

I just did a compression test on the motor. I'm seeing 120-120-120-120 so we're good there. 8.5:1CR motor with 272's installed.

I thought it was pretty common to have an iffy, rich idle with the 740cc/72#'s?

Yeah, I've heard that too, but I think that this is a little extreme, tbh. Idk maybe ill just fine tune the idle timing and fuel and then go from there. Still feel like it shouldn't be that easy, but I'm usually wrong when I think too much about things.
