Tubular VS Redesigned Protech log
I have been thinking about this. But I was wondering what kind of power gains could be had by switching to a tubular manifold. If I am hitting 400whp on 20psi or so where would the tubular make the difference?

I was talking to a guy yesterday with a b16 in his honda. Stock motor. He had an eql length manifold and a t3/t4 57 trim turbo. He did 319whp on a mere 9 psi of boost. I prob would be 350whp on 16psi. Granted he is a lot higher compression than I am. But I hear from ppl here all the time that I should hit 400whp on 15psi yadayada. But the same people who claim these high numbers don't give a whole lot of insight on what could open up th motor to make more power. Here is what I can do to get more power so far.

a real Cold air intake,
smooth out intake plumbing,
play with ignition timing/tune.

The other day i set my timing back at stock and let my buddy drive the car. He took all of his friends in it and played with a greddy turbo 350z and pulled him pretty good. But when he came back he said the car felt slower than normal. I set the timing back at 19* and he took it out again. He came back and said that the car gained 50whp with 4* of timing. So now I know my tune really sucks. I shouldn't have to set my timing above stock in order to make good power.

Would a tubular manifold make a huge difference? I really wanna keep AC and I don't wanna have to deal with cracks in the manifold. Should I keep this protech shorty? I really like the quick spool it has and it keeps the engine bay somewhat clean and compact. What do you guys think?

Not sure, have you ever thought about investing that money into an induction manifold?

Tubular as in equal length? if so, yes it will help. so will a O2 Induction manifold.

I have thought of changing the intake mani to the o2 piece. I just need to have justification to do it. Since there are very few guys running it, it is hard to really know what can be expected from upgrading.

It looks really sweet though. I had one offered to me a while back for like $800 to try out on my car, but funds were too tight.

As far as the exhaust manifold, would it be beneficial for me since I am only shooting for 500whp max? I just want to be able to hit 400whp (up here) on pump gas and I will be happy. I am happy now, but I set this goal like 3 years ago lol and it would be nice to see it come to fruition.

I hope you can due it ....I have been watching your build or a while , I have tried to do a few things different , in hopes of making that 400 whp on pump goal I dont see how the 02 induction piece can hurt along withthe tubular manifold besides they just look good heck give it a shot , and a calum or AEM EMS would probaly help also

A tubular mani will make more then the new protech log if it is made right.

As for a O2 mani will work but a N1 mani will work also. It is all about keeping it in your price range.

what exactly is the big difference in the manifolds? the runner length? air horns?

^^ both.

On my setup what would the gains be like? 30whp?

Eric is that a pic of your motor?? ^^^^
