Thread: Which ECU??

Hi guys. I'm building a SR20DE+T and I'm on a real tight budget.

I'm planning on racing the car in the $2015 Grassrootsmotorsports Challenge.

My car is a '93 Sentra SE-R.

My question is: Would an ECU from a S14 SR20DET work with my extisting wiring harness?

I'm running a T28 turbo with a TMIC. I have 370cc injectors, stock MAF and Throttle body.

EDIT: Oh, are you on a 2015$ budget? In that case, nismotonic is gonna eat up 1/4 of your total..

I think that you can repin your harness to make it run with an s14 ECU, but it's a pita... Not to mention that is an OBD2 ECU, with potential immobilizers? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I'd still get the Nismotronic. Saves you alot of headaches in the long run!

I would suggest a basic chip and a b13 ecu. Your setup is tried and true and there are many reliable tunes for your setup. Do you plan on running COP with an s14 ecu?

I'm not familiar with COP. What is that?

Any suggested sources for a basic chip? I'm assuming this would be a chip that I can have soldered into my existing ecu, is that correct?

Other possibility is a used Apexi S-AFC. They seem to be within my limited budget.

Is this a better option that a re-chipped stock ecu?

That really comes down to preference. The chipping is pretty cheap, Nissan 2-Chip Adapter - backordered 'til 11/28 [NISSAN_2CHIP] - $50.00 : Moates.Net. There are a number of people on the forum able to install and burn the daughterboard and chips. Realistically a chipped basic setup should cost no more than 100 installed and bins loaded. That is using your ecu and sending it out to have the board installed on it.

Just use the B13 ecu. The S14 ECU is different. It has a coil for each plug and a igniter to fire them and your harness doesn't have provisions for that. Nismotronic is your best bang for your buck. They also have basic boards.

@kevwal, the basic boards JKtuing sells are from Moates, they just provide the chips. He is also on a budget due to the challenge so a nismotronic will eat up 1/4 of his budget.

Thanks for the advice! Sounds like the Moates kit is the way to go (given my setup and budget).
