We tried the RE4F03B HD2 shift kit in a A transmission a couple weeks ago and it doesn't work. We are just going to replace the "A" with a "B" and cut/change the tranny plug. I am not sure of the A-trans fluid pump output either... We are getting ready to build my brothers new 99' JV0 94k mile car and do the same thing, Convert to a B-trans and roller rocker engine plus some experimental boost

I swore I saw the HD2 kit for the RE4F03A transmission as well. I know when I was searching for information, they have a downloaded .pdf to detail differences between the 03 and 04 transmissions and lower bodies to ensure you are using the correct kit.

2nd follow-up question, are the shift kits (non HD) easy to install with the transmission in the car? It looks like the lower transmission oil pan is pulled, and the upgrades are done there. Is that all to it? I cannot find precise application installation literature anywhere.

I don't know about the non HD kits. They are probably pretty close to the same thing. The only thing you won't be able to do is change the seals that fail in the high clutch assembly without pulling the bellhouse off of the transmission. When we did my first RE4F03B in the 02' G20 autotragic I just dropped the pan and used everything but those seals. It got the stock 132k mile transmission another 16k miles boosted before the clutches started to get weak. It didn't throw a code yet but I'm sure it would have soon by the feel of the shifts @ 14psi.

I am guessing that the RE4F03B fixed quite a few problems that the "A" transmissions had. I guess when the RE4F03B HD kit says for "RE4F03B" transmissions only it meant it haha - But seriously any full rebuild should start with a "B" core anyway, they are usually in much better shape. The "A" is in 99' under cars that won't throw a slip code so they are usually toast on the inside when you find them. The "B" are in 2000 up and throw solenoid codes when they start to slip. We took 3x "A" transmissions apart for a friend of mine 2-3 weeks ago and all of them had worn out brake band drums and metal to metal clutches. I have yet to see a "B" in that shape yet.

I would love it if you had pictures of teardowns of "A" transmissions. I just hit 112k in this car. It seems like it was a very lightly driven vehicle, trying to make the most out of it. I got the car from the original owner. I wish they would throw codes to indicate slipping, that is a smart move from Nissan. I appreciate any and all input and taking time to discuss this with me.

And if you are able to successfully upgrade the 1999 P11 from the A to a B transmission, it seems like it should be much easier to swap the B transmission into the older A cars. Do you tend to agree?

The "A" transmission hard parts are identical to the "B" parts. We actually used a B braking drum in my buddies "A" since all three a's were bad. I haven't tried it yet but if you changed the front fluid pump and valve body from a "B" into the "A" transmission and rewire the main plug that would probably take care of all the problems and allow using the HD shift kit. (Again my theory and has not been tested yet) (We are also going to measure the fluid pumps (A&B) to see if there are any differences)

Also when we convert JamesJV0 1999 car over to the "B" transmission I'll make a thread. It really should be a drop in deal. All we should have to do is change the transmission connector. I have to run out and get a roller rocker engine and "B" transmission at the yard, lucky there are like 4-5 of them here to pick from. We are going to do a basic RR engine rebuild and full trans rebuild / shift kit and keep the stock 99' ecu/tcu setup with a FIC6 and some boost. We are building it to see if we can tune it as well as my 2002 autotragic car.

So all the pictures in this thread relate to any "A" "B" "V" "W" transmission. The only difference that I can see is the valvebody and possibly the fluid pump. (And of course the V,W have locking diffs with a different bellhouse)

Good day everyone, can someone point give some tip on building a RE4FO3B transmission capable of handling 400 hp from a boosted VE engine

95% of us have or have had a manual SR20 vehicle. This is the best thread to post in so I hope Y2KG20 chimes in. I have an auto A series but I also purchased all the manual stuff just in case that transmission fails because I do not enjoy the automatic transmission.
