Upgrade to GTX2867R?
Hey,

What do you guys think of the GTX2867R? There's a kit from ATP which upgrades the 2871R to the 2867R. I'm assuming this just comes w/the compressor wheel?

Anyways, has anyone here done the upgrade and if so, what did you think?

Thanks!

A compressor wheel change also requires a compressor housing change.

I love my 2867R, but I wouldn't spend a whole bunch of money if I already had a GT2871R already. Is it just a wheel and compressor cover or CHRA and cover and how much?

name changed.

Hmmm, you think the kit includes a turbine housing as well? I didn't know if the 2867R wheel fit inside of the current 2871 compressor housing.

As far as I know the GTX turbos improve upon the GT turbos with new compressor wheels. I believe the exhaust sides are identical, so I don't think that side would change.

The "67" means the compressor exducer is 67mm in diameter. The "71" means the compressor exducer is 71mm in diameter. There is no way one is going to fit in the other's compressor housing and work properly.

I think I was confusing turbine and compressor housings. Ya, that makes sense. Oh Well. :/

if you are really interested, give them a call and ask.

there are 4 versons of the gt2871r and they all use the 53.9 turbine wheel. however what you need to be worried about is the compressor housings are different.

if you have the verson with the T04B compressor housing (GT2871r (4) on http://www.turbobygarrett.com) , then the gtx compressor wheel should be a dirrect replacment for your current wheel.

Nothing changes on turbine side.
When I bought the one for my car, it came without the turbine housing and I reused the one off my disco.

That can't possibly be right?

So you bought this ATP upgrade and got the CHRA, compressor wheel and housing, and the only thing it was missing was an exhaust housing?

Makes a few ponies more than the 2871 (look at the compressor map). However, the real gem is in the "transient" response.

Is it worth the extra cost of machining your current housing/getting new housing and wheel?? IMHO 50/50.
