Yep. I only rev to 3.5K because I was told to rev to 3K. I figured if I revved it higher than 3K, I'd for sure know it would see that I'm trying to enter timing mode. If I blip it to just 3K, I may not hit 3K three times in a row.

Hope that makes sense.

well this is what i did, i warmed up the car reved it 3 times 3k took the tps off got the gun ready set the timing to 15* second line from the right connected the tps back on and turned the car off. it still backfires when i shift fast at high rpms.

warm car up
rev motor past 3k 3x
shut car off
unplug tps
start car back up
rev 3k 3x again
make sure idle is set to 750
check timing
plug in tps

15* is standard for turbo, unless you got a GTiR ECU, then it would be 20

I rev the car to 3500rpm 3 consecutive times, letting it drop to idle speed in between, then just unplug the TPS. The idle dips a little bit, then jumps up so I know I'm in timing mode. Then I can make adjustments to IACV and ignition, and when I'm done I just plug the TPS back in.

The easier way to do it of course, is to just go into base idle timing mode using conzult, but the way I mentioned above works for me every time, as well.

See I did all this before myself. Many many times.. And it never worked. My distributor was completely retarted and still my timing was at at 20*+.

I started doing it with out unplugging anything and now its perfectly fine. I know it sounds weird but Serban was there when I did it and it worked. Then again this isn't on a turbo motor.

This worked for me when unplugging the TPS while driving didnt so much.

^For two mintues?

Ok guys. You have left me no choice . Here it is for your own eyes. After you check it on the next page it just says turn off engine and reconnect TPS.

In a nutshell:

1.) Warm up ensuring engine stays under 1000 RPM the whole time.
2.) Hold throttle at 2000 RPM for 2 minutes.
3.) Race engine 2-3 times under no load.
4.) Let engine idle for 1 minute.
5.) Turn off engine.
6.) Disconnect TPS.
7.) Start engine.
8.) Race engine (2000-3000 RPM) 2 to 3 times with no load.
9.) Allow to idle while checking/setting timing.
10.) Turn off engine.
11.) Reconnect TPS.
12.) Start engine and enjoy having no backfires!

There you go no more questions.

Interesting! I wonder if I should set my timing to 20 degrees now, being that it said that DET's should have timing at 20 degrees. In essence, it's a DET block with a DE head. I'm going to bump up timing to 20 degrees then.
