what did the ecu say the water temp was? I have noticed there is a difference in what the head temp says the water temp is and a aftermarket gauge. the sender for the gauge gets heat soaked causing it to read high. especially when sitting still.

I have mine mounted in a cs water neck plate so mine sits in about the same area. I know my gauge reads higher compared to the head temp sensor from checking my laptop.

I have tried three different water temp gauges all read high compared to the head temp sensor. My n/a ve with a/c would jump to 200 deg with the a/c on thats when I started checking both the head temp sensor and the gauge.

where/what is the head temp sensor located on the head? are you talking about the stock sensor?
Is there a better place for the aftermarket one?

Which thermostat opens later ..its about 80degrees out here and my stock gauge is still at cold during cruise ..andim dropping to around 160 _165 in traffic im around 190_ 195 I deleted all accessories (heater core, tb hoses )

right after the thermostat is the perfect place for a water temp sensor. it will allow you to see the water temp as it leaves the engine.

that being said, i have mine tapped into the upper radiator hose water neck. the sensor tends to get heatsoaked and usually reads 5-10*F hotter then the stock sensor.

I put my aftermarket sensor in place of the oem sensor that went to the gauge in the cluster

Doesn't the water system flow the other way? Water leaves the engine at the upper radiator hose and enters at the thermostat. I put mine in place of the stock dash gauge sending unit. It usually reads 10 degrees or so higher than the ecu temp reading.

Yes the water comes out the upper hose on head - enters top of radiator - exits the lower outlet - enters the thermostat housing

Most standalones are 160-170 out of WUE. Anything between there and 205 is normal for me. Depending on the temps.
