Starting my SR20VE+T Build. Need some knowledge!
Hello all!

I'm starting my SR20VE+T build for my B14.

I've been doing a lot of reading all around the net (including the forums) and I can honestly say that I'm a bit more confused now than when I started. It's apparent that the views on what is a good reliable build for an SR20VE+T has changed over the years. I know that the basic requirements are the same for an SR20VE+T as any other turbo build (proper injectors, fuel supply, etc), but I have a few issues that I'm mulling over before I start breaking down and buying parts.

So here goes. My power goals are somewhere around 400whp. I know that I need to go with a T3 setup (for the power goals and it's apparently better flowing for a VE).

I have somewhere from 4-5K to work with (including engine purchase). The engine is going to set me back around 1K delivered, so that leaves 3-4K for the turbo and supporting goodies. The first question, of course, is: Where are the rest of the funds I have available best placed? I know the turbo is going to set me back 1-1.5K, unless I go with an eBay turbo (which I don't want to do, but I might just to get something on there for now and upgrade later).

I'm also a little fuzzy on the best way to go (both financially and performance-wise) for turbo placement. Top mounting would be the obvious choice for clearance, but the manifold/dp/dump tube setups can get a bit pricey by themselves (1.5K from what I've seen). The only way I could bottom mount would be to go with a half-sized radiator like I've seen on some evo builds.

Any suggestions, links to useful posts, links to parts, etc, etc. would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting tired of finding top mount manifolds for RWD SR20's.

Thanks!

theres plenty of options out there for FWD turbo setups.

I feel your budget may be a tad tight for t3.

best bet is to go with a gt2871 on a modified gtir mani.

you will be more then impressed with the outcome.

it will be affordable, reliable, more then enough power for street.

A little more info:

I currently have a GTiR in the car. I also have a GT28RS turbo (pretty much blown) that would been to be rebuilt if I were to re-use it, but as I understand it, doing so would limit me quite a bit. I have no problem buying another turbo if that's the best bang for my buck.

I'm probably going to find a Fidanza and buy a 6 puck clutch in the process. I already have a P11 transmission, but it's non-lsd. I'm thinking phantom grip. Suggestions?

I have an ebay 3076R sitting on a T28 flange sitting in my garage. Brand spanking new. I really only need it to last for the season (well.. spring, summer, and part of fall). I'll probably do something else with the turbo setup later.

I already have a GTiR manifold. What modification are you referring to?

The more I crunch the numbers, the more I think you're right about my budget being a bit tight for a T3 setup. I could go T28, internally wastegated for a lot less money. I wish I could free up a couple of extra grand, but if I'm going to be putting my 200sx down for this build, I'll have to invest in a daily.

Engine 1k
Manifold an turbo from trackforged with downpipe prob about 2k
Id1000s an topfeed rail from doug 575
Fx500 3-400
Nismotronic 550

If the cars already boosted you should already have a good fuel pump, exhaust, intercooler+piping

Ofcourse there lil odds an ends but I think u could possibly do it..

Otherwise just have doug mod your gtir manifold for ve an better flow maybe external gate it an run one of the turbos u have or a 2871 or something with some of the stuff I already mentioned

@sss4me - What do you mean?

@lynchfourtwenty - Have you used the FX500? I have an ACT Stage 4 now, and I've pretty much loved it, but it's been put through the ringer already. Also, I'm already using Nismotronic SA, so no additional expense there. I also have everything I need to go with MAP and get rid of my MAF once and for all. I didn't bother with it on the GTiR because I was already having more pressing issues with the motor. Might as well throw it on now, huh?

Doug Fab - What would it run me to modify my GTiR manifold for better flow with the VE?

I'm going to start buying parts next week. I expect to start and complete the build the week after that, so I'm really needing to start getting everything planned out.

I'm also renting space at a local DIY shop for the week, so timing is really important. How long will it take to modify the manifold? I'll need to have the it back by the time I start my installation.

Thanks for the input guys!

deff upgrade fuel system so no matter what level of power you wanna run you will be covered.

I would modify your gtir mani for external gate Tial 38mvs would work well. port match manifold to VE ports. clean up ports at manifold collector area. possibly send out to extrude hone.

then purchase a new GT2871 with whatever exhaust housing you prefer.

you should contact me, we can talk and throw around some numbers.

FX500 is the way to go.

fidanza is very nice option for flywheel.

Clutchmasters does offer flywheel/clutch combos that are very nice!
