Thread: Add me to broken 3rd gear club

I really thought it wouldn't happen and that it happens to 'other people'. Well, after 3 years of the car having a turbo my 3rd gear exploded in a simple casual driving acceleration.

I blame it on the newly installed o2 induction manifold :/

Blah, time for a tranny swap. I guess my luck ran out. I got some pretty weird looks from people as I drove by with a loud ass clanking noise coming from my car. Rather it be the transmission than the engine.

it happens. I have yet to blown up a tranny but have two spares in the garage ready to go. my p11 seems to be holding well but I have not had it over 420whp on the street and have not been on a track with it.

mmm, P11. I'd really like to find a P10 5 speed as it has the lowest gear ratios for turbo, but it's as weak as my b14 and could have 5th gear poput. I think I'll just go to the junkyard and try to find another b14 tranny and put it in. If it breaks again within the year, I may invest in a P11/b15 or keep an eye out at the yards. More and more P11's and B15's are popping up at the yards I've noticed.

Yes they are. I scored a b15 trans at the pick-a-part last weekend for pennies.

I went and looked at a b15 SE today at the junkyard..unfortunately it was a non-lsd 5 speed :/ The p10 g20 I looked at was an auto.

Do the job once and for all

Putting a B14/P10 is putting a bandaid on the situation in all honesty and you will end up spending more replacing 2 gearboxes as compared to spending the money/time doing it once and for all

Mine blew on the way to my brother's garage to start the swap for a B15 gearbox (blew 3rd gear into 1 million and 1 pieces merging lol). Still had 5th and drove it to his place some 50+ miles away lol .
