Thread: i wanna go turbo!!!

so i have a 91 se-r and i wanna go turbo but i dont know where to start..i was thinking to just go ahead and buy a motor from one of those tigerjdm websites online but i was wondering if i do that do i just plug and play or is there and modificatins involved.

Many have purchased from Tiger with little to no issues. If you buy a DET, it's best to do maintenance on the motor before just swapping it in. You'll want to check things like the bearings, seals, etc.

i have researched and i figured i cant just bolt something on to my motor cause well my head gasket is about to go lol..but yea i hear im gonna have to replace the water pump and belts and stuff if i get a det....

Why not just replace the headgasket on the motor you have? DE's are more than capable of handling the boost.

yea i thought about that too but the guy i bought the car from says that it wouldnt be a good idea to turbo the motor because he put high compression pistons in it and i asked so whats the compression and all he could say was yea so i really dont wanna risk it...but im thinkin about pulling a g20 motor out and go turbo with that idk still thinking...

Well you could easily find out what the pistons are, by pulling the head. You'd need to pull it to change the HG anyway.

and thats the one thing i havent thought about...will there be something on the pistons thatll say what the compression is??? but anyway thanks alot really appreciate it

Wouldn't necessarily tell you what the compression is, but you'd at least be able to have an idea, depending on how the pistons are dished. Another thing to keep in mind is whether the rods are stock rods or not. If they're stock, and the pistons are dished and not domed, they're lower compression. If they're domed and possibly have valve reliefs, they're higher CR.

You should be able to search the forums for different piston sizes and find pictures on them. That should help.
