Thread: RWD mani pics

anyone here running a rwd mani on their t2 set ups? anyone have any pics? i know fitment can be bad. was wondering if i should even bother trying it out. buddy of mine is pretty much giving me a megan mani for free.

Clearance is not cool. on a P11 I had to cut my rad support and use a 200sx radiator and cut my hood to clear the rad. And you have to get a custom Downpipe made. Getting for cheap may help with the custom parts but it is a lot of work.



Some people cut the runners shorted from the flange side to get more clearance, again custom work unless you have a welder.

Dont do it. Save yourself money, time, headaches, and keep your bay looking decent. All the setup I have seen fit and look like poo.

What he said, it is a lot of work and would I would have not done it if I was to do a turbo setup again. The clearance is always an issue, one of the reasons my mounts are solid. not poly, welded steel. Not sure of the difference in clearance between b14/b13 and p10/p11 but my p11 is a pain sometimes. Dont want to imagine how it would be with a/c line etc.

Might be a deal to get a manifold for next to nothing but unless you are cool with the amount of fab work then get a fwd/awd manifold

thanks guys. yeah, looks like im going to pass on the RWD mani. too much fab and work for me. i got a gti-r mani and turbo sitting and want to see how bad it really was. searched and didn't find much. thanks again everyone

You will make just as much horsepower for longer with the Gti-R Manifold. The other bonuses are that it actually fits and no fab work is needed. They even make off the shelf downpipes and exhausts. You will be able to use whatever radiator that you want for the most part. That was a silly question. Just because the Megan manifold is tubular doesn't mean that it is a better quality piece. In fact imo, just the opposite. It will crack over time and I bet that the Gti-R flows just as well if not better.

I finally got around to test the three typical manifolds on my setup and doing virtual dyno runs. GTiR and Avenir mani's made about the same power, with Avenir doing slightly better. I tested them against a tubular ASP VET manifold, the gains where very minimal, under 10whp. Granted this was on a low overlap Roller Rocker head with RR cams (Stock DE's have similar overlap numbers though, thus would have very similar numbers).

Moral of the story, stick with GTiR or Avenir manifolds for stock camed setups.

Ye, I think that is the better way. i will be switching back to my GTI-R mani at some point. Used the RWD mani back in the newb days and I had no a/c and someone to weld stuff for free.
