Edit: And seeing your reply above, I think this is actually news to you. Yes, they are using non-standard cranks. There is no other way to stroke an engine. Everything else you do (piston/rod work, etc.) is done to deal with the fact that you've gone to a longer crank throw.

I haven't been a mod around here in a long while. Mods can't get around the edit notifications either from what I know though. The tiny edit window after posting was re-instated (accidentally?) a while back with the forum upgrade.

My instinct tells me the heat capacity of the cylinder lining isn't something to be concerned about. I assume the faster you can get the heat to the water in the water jackets, the better. That means the thinnest cylinder wall you can get away with would transfer the heat the fastest to the coolant. Thinner should be better.

Make a bowl out of one sheet of aluminum foil, fill it with water and place a blow torch under it to test.
Do the same with an aluminum sauce pan and compare results.

Actually, I DO have said material at work (please dont ask why.............). Will report back with results!

Now, how about deformation of the stock cylinder bore/lining that has been bored due to high cylinder pressures?? I have seen bore failure/deformation for 88mm at a little over 500BHP
