Quirky turbo issues
Hey guys I have been building this car since I was 17.

I just put my turbo kit on and it's acting funky.
I built the set up in stages as recommended. I put my clutch and pressure plate in Act extreme. Then I drilled and tapped my JDM sr20de. And installed my cams. (Bc2) started the car and it ran fine.

Then when I ran the z32 maf 555cc Tomei injectors and the jet ecu. It ran rough. Okay. Well I pinned out the maf,.4 volts at acceptors and the I also pinned out the ecu which confirmed no break in the wires.

I replaced the o2 brand new with Bosh.

Then I sent out the ecu for a retune because I learned tomeis injectors are actually 601cc or so. So I had JWT retune and 4bar the program. It starts and runs. Not as rough as before but hesitates near 3k rpm like a stutter and it smell very rich.

I hooked up everything, intercooler piping, blow off, etc.

I realize that I have yet to wire in my AFC NEO but it smells pig rich and still stutters but once I rev it up its like it clears its throat almost like a two stroke dirtbike and doesn't hesitate as much, one friend suggested maybe it could be the cams or it building up fuel.

I welded the exhaust myself and its black, but the odd thing is I would love to turn the fuel down with the NEO, however at idle it reads full lean. I took the sensor out and tested it to normal atmosphere it read lean and in a gas soaked rag it read rich. So I'm lost

AND on top of it, it realized that my turbo that I got is blowing oil so now I'm completely lost.

Now I have to find someone to rebuild my turbo and then track Down the tune problems

List as is:
JDM sr20de
BC stage two cams
Base 15* timing
Greddy rocker stoppers
Z32 maf
JWT ecu turned at 607cc Tomei injectors+turbo+z32 maf at 4 bar
2.5 intercooler piping.
Stock throttle position sensor
New 02 sensor
NGK pre gapped iridium spark plugs
Recently new cap rotor and coil with accel 8mm thundercats. Recently new fuel filter
Waldoro 255
Act extreme pp and clutch

Any helpful advise would be appreciated guys. I have to get my turbo re sealed locally, I wish there we more Nissan guys in Maine.

What fuel pressure regulator are you using?

Which fuel line is your fuel pressure gauge on?

How did you go about setting base fuel pressure?

Is Blow Off Valve Recirculated?

Where is your Z32 MAF located in all of your piping?

I started it at idle, I set my fuel pressure at 59 psi with vacuum like off.

I have nismo fpr that I'd run on all my other motors in prep for boost.

Fuel pressure gauge is on the fuel filter line, where I had my old old mounted.

Blow off value is not recirculated at this time I want to recirculated it, I've not had the chance to try to get the motor warm with all the turbo oil leak issues.

My maf, I have a 45 degree pipe off the turbo inlet and the maf sits near the drivers side motor mount

why do you not have a wideband? you spent all that cash on shit and forgot one of the key items... no one should have a turbo car and no wideband, atleast when using a tunable ecu an shit..

when u say it smells rich, you COULD have an exact number, and maybe relay this to jwt for yet another tune, OR maybe ditch that shitty jwt ecu for a Nismotronic! and dial it in your self..

Recirculate the BOV. At idle it can open and let air escape the system.

Once the MAF sees X amount of air enter the engine, it adds Y amount of fuel. If you let the BOV vent to atmosphere and the computer has already added Y amount of fuel it will end up causing a RICH condition.

AIR: Air Filter->MAF->Intake Pipe->Turbo->Hot Pipe->Intercooler->Cold Pipe->Throttle Body->ETC....
................................... ^ .............................................................. |
.................................... | .............. RECIRCULATE THE BOV.............. |
.................................... \<----<----<----<----<----<----<----<----<-BOV

Also, in my opinion, you will want a minimum of 12 inches of pipe between the MAF and turbo inlet. You also want to have where the BOV recirculates into the intake pipe angled at the turbo.

Here is how I have it on my 96 currently.

If you guys would have read a little more careful I talked about testing my AEM wideband......

'I tested the sensor and it read full rich in a rag and when out it read full lean'

Thanks for the bash bro, I'm no idiot hence why I haven't wired in my NEO because it reads LEAN
--- when idling and it's pig rich.....

Lynch I have a wideband I just didn't come out and say it I talked about testing it in a gas soaked rag.... No reason to be a d bag just looking for some ideas...

Curious, what is the latency time on your tomei injectors?
