Question: On center exhaust housings **update pics**
I've searched this forum some and and others as well, does anyone know which brand turbos have more on center exhaust housings? I'm putting together a build after about a 10 year break from turbo sr's and was going to run a 4 bolt garrett housing. Well it didn't come close to cleaeing the head or valve cover, even after EXTENSIVE grinding. I found enough info about exhaust housings being closer to on center to decide to try a 5 bolt housing and everything clears just fine now. I should point out the manifold was built for a ve and I'm running a de. I'm not sure if there a subtle differences in the position on the exhaust ports on the different heads that caused some of my fitment problems. I'm sure its a possibility. But back to my question. Am I stuck with using a turbo with a 5 bolt garrett housing or are the other turbos that are more on center like the the 5 bolts? The only person who I know of that had the manifold running in a car was on a ve and a precision turbo. I obviously don't want to buy a bunch of turbos and cross my fingers lol. Thanks for any input you can share!
Where it hits the vc with the 4 bolt
Not fully seated on manifold
Lots of grinding...
Fits with 5 bolt
