ive always used the jdm and yeah its just been stupid problems that have caused it, not weaknesses in the motor. The bearings were all the orginal bearings being they were brand new looking, The rod nuts were tightened down to spec and i put 700 miles on it and got on it multiple times after the rings broke in, No telling what happend. I dont know guys, im stumped. ive done multiple builds before and no problems. I tightened everything down back in line so it was just a catastrophy. No clue. I will know more when i tear the motor apart to take my pistons out. again hopefully the #3 CP piston didnt get caught up in the carnage. Ill keep you guys updated.

Aw man sorry to hear that.. to put in all that work just to have it ruined on the first track day really sucks man. Best thing you can do is tear it down and see exactly what happened and not do it again I guess.

Sometimes the car gods just have it in for us eh!

That sucks. I would be pissed. Comes with the territory I guess. Luckily I have gotten good at pulling motors

You used rod bearings in a built motor becuase they looked new?

yeah i did, because the motor was low milage to begin with, all i did was put a set of CP pistons on stock rods that were in it. The bearings did not have a single mark on them, no scraches, no wear, the coating was still on them, not shiney, if there was any wear on them i would have gotten new ones. but there wasnt so i reused them. I dont see anything wrong with doing that. They were spotless. The crank journals were spotless, i mean they looked as though they had just been repolished they were that good. The motor was very clean. Nothing wrong with resuing basicly new bearings.

sounds to me like the rod bolts gave way and threw the rod

nope, just got done tearing apart the motor. It wasnt the bottom end that failed. The rod was still attached to the journal and bent to crap. None of the piston was in a piece bigger than a nickel other than part of the top. I pulled the valve cover to find the rocker on the exhaust side #3 thrown and in pieces. one valve on the left side #3 exhaust was bent and stuck down. Pulled the head to find the cylinder wall destroyed with a big hole in the wall probably where the wrist pin dug in and punched through the wall. I guess im the king of carnage. Lots of pics to come. Piston and rings and billion other peices were on the upper and lower pans. All other pistons were fine. The head is destroyed on that one combustion chamber. The head of the valve was down in the pan while the stem still in the guide. Pieces of metal were everywhere. The front of the block was cracked on the outside where the freeze plug WAS.

So here is what happened. Lifter failed. Rocker thrown and lodged between the left side valve, cam came around held the valve open way too far. piston hit the valve, which cause the rocker to shatter. Piston disintegraded, wrist pin dug into the cylinder wall puching a whole in the wall bending the rod up. crank got stopped when the biggest piece of the piston lodged between the block and the girdle. the other big piece of the piston probably went through the hole in the back of the block.

I will post pics later.

WOW!!

So its safe to say bad luck was on your side 100% when you launched that car.
