Thread: FX500 question before purchase.

doing just fine in my b14 trans and im not very easy on my cars

My B14 survived a 6 puck and a heavy pp, it's all in the driver really.

Man I don't miss having to use puck clutches to get over 250whp. 250mm 350z clutch ftw.

I know that this is an old thread but more long term input doesn't hurt. Had an FX500 on my car about two years. Went to the dyno and it started slipping after a 487whp pass. Dropped power to 380whp-ish and it held with the slicks at the track. Upped the boost at the track, guestimating 450+whp and it slipped. Currently looking for another clutch.

Any estimate of how many miles put on it? I really don't see these clutches lasting very long for the 400+ HP club guys. I went through the same thing with my mustang single disc 10" clutches. After you go through 2 or 3 you wish you went with a twin.

interested to see what your flywheel looks like. if i was in that power range twin disk would be in my car for sure

On another note about the flywheels with replaceable friction material unlike solid flywheels. They are nice on lower HP cars, but when you start putting down a lot and getting a little slip at the track or hard driving the heat warps the thin friction plate. I pulled one off the mustang after a track event and the cutch was acting funny and when I pulled all the bolts off the flywheel friction plate it sprung off. I don't thing they can transfer the heat like a solid flywheel can.

I have a 4 puck in my car, together with a 13lb(?) flywheel, wich being lighter further dificults the standing to movement, it want´s to stall all the time... but it´s a matter of habit, and i love it now, it never slipped and it´s really fast engaging. I drove some other cars, with other HD clutches but none so user friendly at this power level...

I'd guess I put around 5k miles or less on it.




I won't be taking the car apart for a while but when I do I will post pics of the clutch and flywheel; I'm interested to see it as well. I got a twin disk for it a couple of days ago.

I currently have a FX500 in my car making 600whp with 450+tq. The clutch with a good old B13 box has held up OK. It gave me some hints of slipping but, nothing major. I will be installing a Action Clutch set up in the car here soon. I will let you all know how that holds up.

Any idea how many street miles on it?
